Guest thestar_2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Hi, I wanted a 3.5mm Jack convertor to use with my omnia and have managed to find some - http://store.wmexperts.com/windows-mobile-adapters.htm My question is - will they allow me to take calls as well if my earphones have a built in mic? or are they just for music? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks.
Guest Fuzzman1 Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 (edited) I got my stereo jack from ebay before Christmas, purely for listening to music using my own headphones. I have never tried using it for receiving calls but it does work as an aerial for the radio. Not sure that is much help but from the looks of the website you were on this one is much more compact! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Headphone-Adap...%3A1|240%3A1318 Edited March 16, 2009 by Fuzzman1
Guest Samuelw Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 What's wrong with the standard connector? The 'handsfree' cable, the one that also can be used as a radio antenna? Or is it mono or something?

Guest Samuelw Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 I need better quality earphones. The standard ones produce "thick" sound and are badly designed with no aesthetic sense at all. So the standard ones are just of enormous bad quality. If one wants to listen to 'high-quality' music, lets say 320kbps, one has to buy the alternative shown in the topicstart?
Guest kdavidyates Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 This one http://store.wmexperts.com/samsung-oem-hea.../12A45A3484.htm has much better sound quality than the long cable adapter you get with the phone. The downside is that you will hear a lot more hiss and background noise, makes all sorts of clicks and pops when the processor is busy! You don't hear these noises with the bundled adapter, but the quality with the short cable is so much better IMO that it's worth putting up with a bit of noise. I use Super.fi.5 pro, Pocket Player, and with this setup the phone has the best sound quality I've ever heard from a portable device.
Guest Samuelw Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 I think the other one, presented in the topicstart is as good as the one you pointed out. This is because it's branded by Samsung, and probably much more expensive because of the name.

Yes but since it wont allow calls it just defeats the purpose. Can someone confirm i cant use this for calls please.Thanks.

Or is it mono or something? i think because its too long if you are going to use a normal earphone with it. this short alternative lets you use long cabled earphones.
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Ok, I have another question - can someone guide me to an adapter with music keys (next song; previous song; play/pause; sond level)? Thanks in advance B)
Guest Samuelw Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 There isn't one as far as I know. However, after having had a second look at: http://store.wmexperts.com/samsung-oem-hea.../12A45A3484.htm I got a question Why is the 3.5 connector, much bigger than other ones. This one for example http://store.wmexperts.com/smartphone-expe.../12A45A2299.htm ? Thanks
Guest kdavidyates Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Don't know why the Samsung OEM one is bigger, but it definitely doesn't have a mic on it. You can use the phone mic, however, so it's not unusable for calls, just harder than a proper handsfree.

Guest maf107ezk0 Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 sorry but what is wrong with the standard 3.5 adapter which come with the PHONE ! did anyone try to use his own EARPIECE on it ! Yep, that`s what I`m wondering B) But it may turn out that the one included in our box isn`t as good as those that are suggested here... Dunno :(
Guest kdavidyates Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 I have used both adapters (bundled handsfree and short cable) with my ER-6i and Super.fi 5 pro, and like I said above the shorter adapter has much better sound quality. It's a fair bit louder to start with, but I did quite a bit of side-by-side comparison, and to me the sound is also a lot clearer with the short cable. The downside with the short cable is that you hear a lot of background noise that you don't hear with the bundled adapter - like the processor working when you scroll through songs! I think the bundled handsfree has an attenuator to cut out the noise, which is why it's quieter, but also why it doesn't sound as good. Posted on here a while back about this issue.
Guest mobilehappy Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Any improved sound quality is probably not from the short vs long cable, but due to that the original adapter have a "volume control wheel" which as usual does degrade the sound quality.

I just got this and there is no indeed no mic on that little box but Im finding I can;t even use the phone mic unless I plug out the adapter. Is that what you do too?
