Guest HHundyy Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Yea I just bought an omnia and all these threads are a bit over my head right now but i was wondering if there is a way to make my omnia faster. Im pretty sure "my device" memory acts as RAM and that is full and when i tried to install manila 2d i couldnt because of virtual memory being too low. can anyone help a newb like me? lol i reallly appreciate it...thanks!
Guest kav Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 manila usually takes up really a lot of space on the device, nearly 20mb. this is why people prefer to used it with custom roms , as in the custom roms, they remove the xtra "useless" programs to make space for the manila. the omnia is as it is, actually u cannot make it faster, since its a ppc and not a computer, u cannot upgrade hardware parts to make it faster. but surely u can make it more responsive. if u have a verizon i910 omnia, then there isnt much tweaking u can do as compared to the i900. besides all of the custom roms are only for i900 omnias, and they cannot and shouldnt be used on the i910. are u new to win mo devices? take ur time and try to read through some topics here at modaco. it will help u a lot ,, not only in tweaking ur omnia, but also in "fixing" it. but if u need help in a specific topic, dont hesitate to ask, there are many helpful people here. and last but not least, welcome to modaco and to the "club" of owners of Omnias B)
Guest FerdiBorbon Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Cpuxscalar clocked at 200mhz tends to speed up all of my daily program and UI...try it i love it.
Guest zhan. Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Cpuxscalar clocked at 200mhz tends to speed up all of my daily program and UI...try it i love it. May i know where can i get to download Cpuxscalar ?? thanks
Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Hmmm, I read somewhere that its not really compatible with the Omnia and no matter the setting, it clocks it at a full 624mhz. I suppose that would speed things up B)
Guest ahcor1991 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) if you want your omnia faster, install spb pocket plus Edited March 28, 2009 by ahcor1991
Guest TonynMI Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Here is an app that will increase your speed. Ensure that you take a backup first. Do not clock over 400 to begin with. XCPUScalar.arm.CAB
Guest kav Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 overclocking the omnia using the xcpuscaler will make all ur apps faster but it will seriously compromise ur battery life. since the omnia runs on graduated cpu speed, meaning that it adjusts the speed of the cpu automatically according to the requirements. if u are setting the cpu to run on a constant speed, it will drain the battery very very fast, but if it is something u can live with then, u can use it to overclock the omnia. bu then i am also suceptible to using this app, since if u consider overclocking a cpu in a regular pc, it can be done but it requires xtra cooling and ventilation for it not to overheat and burn. i am not sure for the omnia but i wouldnt want to burn my cpu in the omnia as it not changeable like in a regular desktop. but thats just me. Guest illusion786 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Isnt the Omnia fast enough with the default settings? From my exp using tarils rom its fast enough for evry branded applications i have used. Currently i have 67mb RAM free. Been on for the passed 2 days with Phone ex, Batti and all other default apps running.
Guest 3shirts Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Yeah, there was a thread about cpuXScaler. I did a few days testing with it and found that running it knocks battery down by half under typical usage circumstances! Not acceptable for me. kav is correct that XScaler isn't fully comatible with the CPU on the Omnia so doesn't actually control it correctly. All it does is disable the automatic scaling meaning the Omnia will run flat out all the time no matter what speed you select. This obviously means faster response as there is no delay in throttling up the CPU when you open new apps etc but it also means when the phone is sat idle, the cpu is hammering away at full 627Mhz which kills the battery and probably doesn't do the CPU a lot of good either. I guess you could install it and disable it, then just enable it if you want to show the phone off to people as it will make things seem slicker!
