Alternative to replace default SMS program

Hi,

Is there any program out there that replaces the WM6.1's SMS program? I'm quite irritated by how slow it takes to popup the composing window.

I've tried programs like sms-chat, power sms, but they do not replace the default sms software that wm6.

I'm currently using Qbus's M2D lite rom, and when i click on the message, the wm6 default sms program is called. Is there some other programs that can replace this?

Thanks a lot!

I use Vito SMS-Chat with SPB Mobile Shell and I never see or touch the default Windows interface now. Don't know how it integrates with M2D though

When you receive an SMS and click on reply, it will launch sms-chat?

Yes it will show up a notification on top of all apps. And u can choose to close it or read it. Very nice. I'm using it as well.

Yep, i realized that too.

There should be a way to edit M2D, such that it will launch sms-chat instead of the default sms software.

ANybody knows? I tried reading up XDA, but it seems that nobody has a solution.

thanks for the idea.

But I guess the other menu such as "write new", "forward", "delete" will be broken if i do that... not too sure though..

Besides, sms-chat works on top of the default sms application, renaming the .exe file of the sms app may break everything else.

I've a question, with the rom. How can I put a program as défault than those giving by Windows Mobile.

Exemple, I've bought the sms application from VITO; SMS-Chat, and I would like to put this program in place from the Windows Mobile, sms défault application.

As Khuanchai's Rom, as I click on the "text" on the Today screen, I would like that it open SMS-Chat from VITO instead the Windows.

Thank you for reply

Yep, definitely no answer yet as for a fix for this... I'm currently running 6.5 to no avail.

Too bad, too.

The phone software and be overridden with programs like SpamEx, the calendar with programs like ThumbCal, but nothing took care of messages and SMSes.

I am also looking for a solution to this. This is a recurring problem with WM6. I am on a 6.5 ROM and would like to remap all of the defaults to the Titanium interface as well. I think that is possible but I can't find a way to change what happens when I click "Reply" when an SMS message bubble comes up. Please Help.

try chaning the following reg key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINBOX\1

by default it is tmail.exe

change this to "[path to sms-chat]"

dont forget the ""

e.g "Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

and yes you probably will loose the extra parameter functions. but if you have a message u'll be reading it in sms chat neway and will be using its own reply function.

if that doesnt work, use the vjbrisk solution posted earlier, that should work.

Resco Contact Manager can override the WM SMS application. It does so quite well, too. The today plug-in it has is very nice - it's unfortunate that there's no other finger-friendly plug-ins to compliment it.

If you are trying to make this happen by clicking "text" on the text panel in titanium, the the best way to get the appearance of this is:

1- use CHome editor to disable the Ctext panel

2- create a new panel and make the title say "text" just like the Ctext panel

2- create a new app page in the new text panel

3- make it point to SMS-CHat of course

4- assign whatever icon you want

5- enable the panel and there you go

for more in depth instruction on how to use the CHome editor- look under the winmo 6.5 research topic by Kuanchi i think it is. Good luck.

I use Resco Contact Manager under WM 6.1 with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 so I dont use the "like is" Today Plugin. I really want to press SMS button (widget), and run Resco Contact Manager (SMS Tab). How can I do it ?

I'm using SPB Mobile Shell with Mskip Pro Plus Elegance skin and VITO SMS Chat; I have put an invisible link to VITO SMS Chat over the original SMS widget, so when I click the widget VITO SC starts :) . I assume you can do this with Resco, but I guess you have to install Mskip first.

There is a downside to Vito SMS chat which none of you mentioned... MMS messages don't work on it so it's useless if you get a lot of them. Because you'll have to toggle between both programs. That's the main reason I deleted SMS chat.

Yes, it will work, I have SPB 3.5.2. installed & the latest Elegance skin by Mskip. He is working on a new version to get out a few minor bugs though (like black fonts showing on black background in the call log, the only bug I encountered so far btw).

Yes, I see that black background in call log. I also think, for a reason I dont know, touch sensivity is not as good as before. What do you think?

Despite that, those invisible buttons do the trick :)

I think touch sensitivity is the same, the skin just uses up more memory, so it results in a bit slower response, yes.
