Guest dwallersv Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 There's been a lot of discussion in various threads about poor WiFi performance on the Omnia. I thought I'd post the best numbers I've seen for my device on my home network to give people a sense of what they might expect. My setup:802.11g enabled on OmniaLinksys 600WRT router on same floor.line-of-sight distance approx 40 feet, through 2 walls, 2 large mirrors2 bars of indicated signal strengthTarget PC connected via network cable to routerCopied 100MB file from PC to Omnia "My Storage" via Resco Explorerheld Omnia in my hand, inverted so that antenna area was on top and least obstructed. My results: Peak throughput of 4000bps, average around 3200bps. I consider these pretty good numbers given the limitations of the Omnia antenna system. Post your own numbers folks so we can get an idea of what is "reasonable", what's good, and what's bad. Most important data to include, it seems to me are at least the mode (B or G), indicated signal strength at your handleld (the signal bars shown in the WiFi settings screen for your network), and of course the throughput numbers.
Guest thescope Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 I copyed over a movie (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) 700MB at about 400-450kB's using 3com router FORCE G MODE to make sure its runing on G...
Guest Gamerek Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 And i was surfing the web at distance of 150m from the WiFi hot spot. I found that Omnia really have a good WiFi.
Guest illusion786 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Well it actually depends on the router/wifi/isp itself numbers make no difference on how your omnia operates.
Guest kav Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 just like illusion786 mentioned, there are too many variables so that we can actually measure the omnia wifi interface. it all depends on the wifi router hardware, then have to count also the isp, the provided internet speed by the isp. if all these are standardised in all the tests then we can actually consider measuring distance of omnia from router, etc... but the problem is that the actual internet speed given by the isp is always varying. not every one has the same router, and not everyone has the same internet provider (isp). i tried runnng download speeds at dslreports and they were always different. i have a thomsom speedtouch wifi router, an internet connection speed of 60Mbps. at a distance of 1m from my router and full signal on the omnia, it came results of 4500kbps, 1873kbps, 224kbps, 5103kbps. then from a distance of abt 45 to 50m i ran tests again and it gave 5016kbps, 1588kbps, 3079kbps. these values dont suggest much, as i dont see them as really accurate as a measure as how my omnia operates.
