So i was on a road trip with some friends and on the way up my phone randomly verted to 3G. Now my phone has randomly done this before but it was usually after i turned my phone on so it was there and quickly went away but this time my phone said 3G for a good 20-30 minutes. I live in MD and I was on my way to New York when it happened so somewhere between there my phone verted itself to 3G AND it was not roaming. It still said tmobile.

I am in the US using TMobile and was wondering was this a fluke or is there something real behind this? I was thinking of maybe trying out the i900L rom in the roms section but i just wanted to second a 2nd opinion first

It may have shown a signal, but did you try to do anything with it?

From what I can gather, T-Mo USA use an asymmetrical connection- 2100 downstream and 1700 upstream. It's possibly your phone sensed a signal on the DS side, but whether it would allow any connection is debatable?

The i900 radio has obviously not changed, so if you were being connected, it suggests T-Mo have shifted frequencies or you were roaming on a supported network (though as you say, the roaming indicator should have shown if that were the case)
