Guest Supadan Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 So I am a college student with a subwoofer in the back of my car and the Omnia's stock sounds really requires me to crank my volume in order to get bass out of it. So when I found SRS WOW HD, i was..well..WOW'ed (cheesy, i know). The screen glitch got my hopes down, but after fidgeting with every setting possible, I think I may have found a fix. Proof: -I've used for over 10 hours now without a screen glitch -Whether it's plugged into a charger, headphones, whatever, it doesn't hang. I've tried it all. My equipment: STV1L2 DXIA5 rom R2VS AND WOW SRS HD (yes you need both found >> at that link) http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...for-omnia-i900/ i900 not i910 S2u2 1.52 Samsung online widget (might or might not matter) So the issue seems to be that if you let your phone's screen turn off else it will hang. So here are my settings. Ok so start>settings>power>battery power You must have NONE in your drop down box. I have the 2check boxes checked and 10 seconds in my other drop down box start>settings>power>external power Must also be NONE. I have the check boxes checked and 1 minute for theother drop down box start>settings>power>Calling Uncheck "turn off LCD after call has..." (Phone might hang after your screen turns off while chit chatting) Start> Settings> Personal > Buttons> Wake Up Front button only is chosen "When device is woken up lock device" is UNCHECKED Now for S2U2 settings: Start>programs>S2U2>S2U2 Settings Lock when device wakes up is ON Under battery power: Lock when backlight turns off is OFF Power off in 10 s But only Blank Screen is OFF Blank Screen on Talk is OFF Under External Power looks EXACTLY like under battery power Scroll down to Power Save Mode: ON Don't Suspend Power: ON Don't Double Check Backlight ON Don't use keyboard hook: ON Check Exceptional exes: ON Now what does this all mean? I'm not too sure but this means that 1. Your phone will never auto lock. The screen will dim after a mere 10s (you can make it longer) 2. You must manually lock your phone EVERYTIME (using the power button) but it can be woken up using any button. 3. When you wake up your phone, if you use S2U2 like me, you can see thetime and then forget about it because the screen will turn itself off and you don't need to worry about it hanging. (Whew) IMPORTANT! WHEN YOU SOFT RESET!!! Do the following: Go into Start>Settings>System> WOW HD and DISABLE WOW HD and then OK out and then lock your phone using s2u2. AND THEN go back into HD settings and enable it. My phone hung on me immediately after a soft reset but after I did what I just instructed you to do, it never did it again after. So I don't know if everything I wrote is relevant to the screen hanging issue, but this is what's working for me so far. Leme know how it goes with everyone and I'll continue to give updates. Sorry for long post -Dan
Guest 007Echelon Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Hi Dan, on reading your post I wonder the best way to resolve problems of the battery, the screen off & on. I have to test your solution but to turn the screen off manually is so so, but the best it's a new cab to fix this.
Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I'll have to try this later, but you could try adding the SRS program (I don't remember if it was a dll or a exe) to the exception list of S2U2, and disable only check foreground for Exceptional EXE's. Then, with some mortscript, it could check if a music player is running, and enable SRS (which won't let S2U2 run). If there is no music player running, it would disable SRS, allowing the omnia to go to sleep mode correctly.
Guest fane Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Seems to work fine with mine.I dont mind to push the power buton to put the phone on sleep.Whats annoys me is the phone hanging and i already missed some call because of the bug. Thanks for the tip
Guest Supadan Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) To 007Echelon: As far as i know there is no new cab available? I just got home so I'll check to see WoZZeR999: The point of the settings was to allow S2U2 to run, as long as we push the power button manually. With these settings, S2U2 + SRS is allowed to run simultaneously just that we push the power button manually. However, I really wonder how often we'll leave our phones with the screen on (i rarely do anyway). I always make sure I lock my phone and if I need to see the time ill just push any button to see the time (on S2U2) and then leave it alone because my settings allow the screen to turn off while S2U2 is running. I like your idea but im not mortscript proficient and since I'm using S2P its easier to control when it's locked so I lock it. Plus, I have a car holder and its set so that the power button aligns to a piece of plastic which if i push my phone slightly up, itll automatically push the lock button. Really convenient :-). If you get the mortscript working though, that'd be great, but my worry is then that you can never turn your screen off without it hanging during music. PLUS i've had my phone hang after phone calls because of the "turn screen off during phoine call" option :-\ so you gota be able to handle that as well To fane: Tell me how the settings work. My settings are meant to prevent the hanging of the screen (which requires a soft reset or pulling the battery out). Leme know if it hangs on you. REMEMBER if you soft reset, make sure u disable SRS, lock it using S2U2, unlock, and then enable and it should work fine. UPDATE! I've been running my phone ALL day today without a single screen lock up. So far so good :-) More feedback please! Edited March 24, 2009 by Supadan

Guest fane Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 So it still hangs with the settings above after u disable wow? Yes B) once this morning but its kinda random sometimes it handles 4 hours in a row sometimes it freezes imediately
Guest Supadan Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Yes B) once this morning but its kinda random sometimes it handles 4 hours in a row sometimes it freezes imediately Try soft resetting, then disable SRS, lock your phone and turn your screen off, then enable SRS. see if this helps at all... **update** with new S2U2 settings, phone has been going for HOURS without hanging.
Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Is the battery draining any faster?

I'm being dense Supadan, but I'm not clear on what you're saying above. Is this a correct detailed description of the procedure? Soft reset (doesn't matter how, recessed button or software reset)Go to Settings->System->SRS WOW HD, uncheck "enabled"Lock phone and turn screen off with power button (which puts the phone to sleep)Wake phone up, go back to SRS WOW cpl, enable SRS.Is that it?

Guest Jumba Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Settings not working for me either. Even if SRS and R2VS are disabled the phone still hangs. Uninstalled and everything's fine again.
Guest Supadan Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Did you guys also follow the original post settings? You must must must follow the start>settings>system settings included in the first post. dont forget that after a soft reset you must disable, lock, unlock, then enable. So far i've tried this on 2 DXIa5 roms (Qbus and StevenH) and both worked perfectly. One more thing...when you check SRS settings, is it set to headphones or internal? I don't think it should matter...but make sure that there is something there. Sometimes QBus' rom causes it to go blank. ALSO make sure to install it to MY Storage OR device (im not sure about SD card...i havent tried installing it there)

Guest TarekIC Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Could it be that there are some ROMs for which this works and other it doesn't???!!! Can we get a poll of the ROMs where this thing works? I am using the latest Qbus rom and it does not work properly.
Guest dwallersv Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) Okay, so far so good on my verizon 910. Changed system power and S2U2 settings yesterday about 3PM. Made it until I went to sleep around 10PM without a single hang, and all the benefit of truly trickle-drain during suspend mode. Was locked up this morning (unresponsive), but I'm pretty sure that was because of the scheduled automatic SPB backup at 3AM, which reboots the phone when it's finished, and then of course nothing fixes the SRS settings back to Headphones after boot. But I'm just guessing. Rebooted, got the SRS WOW settings fixed again, and it's been fine for the last two hours. I'm guessing this will be a solid workaround that, if you can develop the right habits with it, is very minimally inconvenient. Basically what it looks like is that suspending via the power button is slightly different than via a particular software method that most apps use. S2U2 does something different when it calls the suspend API that is similar to (or the same as) what WM6 does when it gets a power-button event. So, these two methods "clean up" properly before going to sleep, leaving the SRS driver in a functional state when it wakes up .I'm guessing the SRS driver doesn't have the interfaces implemented to handle sleep mode functions properly. Power button and S2U2 probably pass some parameter that causes SRS to be uninitialized, so that on wake-up it gets re-initialized just like on a boot. Other apps that call the Suspend API are calling it differently so that SRS doesn't get shut down, loses some state that is in registers or something somewhere that's not preserved in suspend mode, then is completely fubar'd when it resumes. One would think that WM6 doing an automatic suspend via the Power cpl settings would do it the same way the power button interrupt handler does, but apparently not. So, bottom line so far is: Make sure SRS WOW is configured properly after any reboot; suspending via power button or S2U2 application will not hang the device; don't suspend any other way. Further experiment: I am going to set S2U2 to lock when the screen blanks (which on the Omnia is really "dims"), and see if this is stable. If so, users of S2U2 will effectively have full automatic suspend functionality that is safe, implementing the same ability that is present in the WM6 power settings, but letting S2U2 do it. If it works, Supadan will have worked out a complete workaround for this problem. Edited March 25, 2009 by dwallersv

The MAIN issue with S2U2 is the Don't Suspend Power option which MUST be set to ON else it is guaranteed to freeze. As long as that is set to on for S2U2 users, the phone shouldn't hang. I am using QBus DXIA5's clean rom and am getting MUCH better battery life than i had previously with StevenH's DXIA5's (clean /2) rom.

B) Well, I don't seem to have to do any of this to suspend safely via the power button or S2U2. I have only to make sure that SRS has been configured for Headphones after booting, and can suspend via power button or S2U2 at will without a hang. I am running the latest release of S2U2 -- was running a pretty old version (1.4.1) before trying Supadan's settings, so I upgraded before trying this workaround.
