OK everybody, I think that something needs to be pointed out here. I am a fairly new user here. I have been reading for quite a while but only a member for a short time.

What I have observed here is that most of the topics are too long to be useful. Some of this is because of posters who throw in "thanks" posts and the like, but a lot of it is conversation that posters carry on in the post that might be better handled through PM. There also seems to be a shortage of stickied "clean" threads. This makes it very difficult for a new user to collect the pertinant information that they are hoping for.

I would like to suggest that the mods create a few stickied threads that are monitored and cleaned of off topic posts and "good info" replies. IMHO, there should be a sticky for themes, SPB skins, WAD skins, M2D skins, GPS updates for the i910(only breakthroughs or one status update updated weekly) and applications. These threads should only contain posts with screenshots and a download link.

I want to clarify that I LOVE the community here and have found tons of useful information. I just think there is a better way to make the information available to new users and maybe clear up some of the other posts to allow talented developers and hackers to apply thier trade. Am I totally alone here?

search doesnt always come up with what they were looking for, it hasnt helped me when trying to find something, in turn people then post the same thing again.

The idea of eliminating certain posts that say thank you or other information that is not considered pertinant to some will not magically fix everything. Some people like to read feedback and views/opinions about something before they install it. some developers work hard to make or adapt apps to work on this and many other platforms. Suddenly because some are too impatient to sift through the forum pages the thank yous for their work should be removed? Im not trying to sound like a jerk but maybe trying more than one search criteria or simply browsing the forum might yield great results. the threads could be moderated by adding a link on page one to the posts with good info/links. but thats alot of moderation to manage still. if too many topics get pinned others might not get the attention or input they deserve.

I'm not saying remove these posts or threads, just make some stickied threads that are info only, none of the filler. I have used search until I am blue in the face and could not find what I was looking for. I could go to google and search would be a little more fruitful for this forum, but that's not the point. I am just recommending that the threads with 30+ pages obviously are important to people and contain information that is pertinent. Let's take these threads and compress them into a stickied thread.

I understand your point, BUT thats still alot of unnecessary moderation for just one section of the modaco site. I like the idea of hotlinking or updating the first post. maybe once its fixed/resolved it can be cleaned up and made into info only threads. or maybe they can add some more moderators to help out, then it wouldnt be so bad.

I would love to moderate these 4 threads. I think later today I am going to start a M2D skins thread because that is what I am working with right now.

good point (should point out however: it's not just modaco that's 'suffering', others like xda and samsung-omnia are exactly the same);

this is the second thread in less than a week on this issue (search etc), the key outcome is basically:

search works, but it takes time, and it would be nice if there was a decent FAQ. A FAQ/stickies takes time however and is not the most pleasant job so I can imagine that's the reason there is none.

You are absolutley right. That is why I am bringing it up here. I like to think of Modaco as my home for info on my Omnia. I would like to see it held to a higher standard so that it doesn't end up as bad as xda.
