Guest silkmeister2 Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Should i create a folder in My storage to store my music? What is an optimal place to store them? that is what i've done, just used a My Music folder on My Storage, works quite well but depends how much you want to store on your internal storage and storage card
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Should i create a folder in My storage to store my music? What is an optimal place to store them? depending on what program you use, it may not even matter where they are. it is best, for organizational purposes to have one folder holding all your tunes. best if followed by folders for artists, and if you feel folder for albums. i'm lazy and just use WMP to sync music i choose, and it does all that for ya. Slide 2 Play is a program i like to use, which only needs the files to be in one folder, and it has an album view which only works if there are folders for albums of music. Nitrogen is another i've tried that i has a media library which organizes them i believe, very good player, extremely quick and real low RAM usage, still in early stages tho. Samsung's player has a few quirks i've heard, like creating a file for each track for its album art, which can suck extra memory off the storage if you have enough music. But idealy, yes you should have a music folder, and at the least folders for artist, if not also albums for best compatibility and organization. WMP is quick and ez (if you use it.) Good to snag album artwork too.
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 The best places to store them are either in My Storage, or the Storage Card - depending on how big that is. Whatever you do, don't save them directly to My Device because they'll eat up the system memory in no time at all! It's up to you if you want to create a new folder for them because it doesn't matter - you'll have to tell your media app where the music files are anyway, or the app will auto search for them before it plays them. In my Omnia, I've have them saved to My Storage in a separate folder because I have plenty of room there, and having them in a separate folder makes things organized and easier to find.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I use a storage card, considering how slow the internal (My Storage) storage is. What did they do, drop class 2 cards in there? B)
Guest Rooster Misfit Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 well i plan on getting the 16gb card so i will put music and movies on that and keep my phone storage open for pics apps and recorded videos

B) i get faster transfers from internal than a class 6 microsd when transferring from pc to phone for both.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 i get faster transfers from internal than a class 6 microsd when transferring from pc to phone for both. I get half of the performance...of a class 4 card. So...maybe not all the phones are created equally B)
Guest xfer85 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 I've created a folder for mp3s under my storage, however when i play the songs, it seems like they only play it within that folder of singer only. How can i create a playlist with that instead? Do i need to pull out individual mp3s and place them in another folder? Also, i cant seem to select any of those musics for my ringtone, it doesnt show up in the option. Must they be placed in specific folders for ringtone?

Must they be placed in specific folders for ringtone? for the songs, it depends on what player your using and how your choosing the music. with WMP theres a "play" button in the library that will play everything listed (all songs, all songs from that artist and the like, supports playlist from PC, maybe playlists created on device.) So... which player are you using? for ringtones, theres a folder in My Documents labeled My Ringtones, put the files in there. Note you only really need 30sec of a song or whatever to have it play through a whole ring. plenty of free programs to clip mp3's out there. i use audacity.

Guest DeepBlueEditor Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Quick note on the Touch Player. Is there a way to exclude directories? Dumb as this sounds, the Touch Player insists on adding all the system sounds as music. Very annoying to have to go in and remove them all manually just because I added a single MP3 in a folder and needed to rescan the directories for the new song to be picked up. It's actually semi-useless as a music player because of that. If there is no way to isolate that from happening, Samsung would be better off putting in something like GS Player which is great but a little ugly. Anyway, is there a way to isolate it from picking up system sounds? Sean

Hi Thanks, it seems perfect! However, i tried naming the folder in 'my storage' 'My Ringtones'. Went to my phone settings, still couldnt see the mp3s. Is there anything im missing? Im guessing if its done right, it would be a long list considering i've close to 100 songs there. Thanks in advance =)

Thanks in advance =) In My Device/Windows you should find a folder called Rings. You can drop new ringtone MP3's in there because this is where all of the system MP3's are located. Once you place your ringtones there, then you'll see them in your ringtone selection window. Beware! I wouldn't place an entire library of songs in this folder because doing so would eat up system memory quite quickly.
Guest js3339 Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Hi Thanks, it seems perfect! However, i tried naming the folder in 'my storage' 'My Ringtones'. Went to my phone settings, still couldnt see the mp3s. Is there anything im missing? The correct folder is "\My Storage\My Documents\My Ringtones\" Maybe "\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones\" work too. Edited March 26, 2009 by js3339
Guest xfer85 Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Thanks guys. Meabigbaldguy : By doing that i would need to waste some space for ringtones. Apprarently, it seems like i can have a folder where i can play both my mp3s, and still work as ringtones. js339: I've tried creating a 'my documents' under my storage, and placing my mp3 folder 'my ringtones' into that folder, still cant get my phone to bring up the option for ringtones.
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 it only works off the device's root directory\My Document i'm pretty sure. Just edit a few mp3's to a 30 sec clip which take up roughly 500kb at that rate. even less if you save it to a lower quality than the "standard" 128kpbs for mp3's. I think theres even a WinMo app out there that can clip mp3s like that too, check xda.

Sean as far as i know, unfortunately no. thats the draw back of this touch player, it scans all the drives for all the sounds and adds them all. u have to manually delete some afterwards. B) this is why most people use a 3rd party app to listen to music( pocket music player, coreplayer and there are many others as well ), not only because of the better sound quality they give, but also for the ability to scan only specific folders and the presence of an equalizer and specific playlist as well. too bad it not all included in the touch player. :(

So...maybe not all the phones are created equally B) Hi Adrynalyne, just off topic here,,, i saw that u are active on another ppc forum as well in the section of graphic modification, and it good to see that u are also active here, hope u can bring a lot of contributions here regarding graphics for the omnia. back to the topic again, concerning the performance ot the sdcard and the drice, u can actually compare them. if u install coreplayer and copy a movie file (not too long as it will take a long time to do the test) on the my storage drive and the same file on the storage card, u can run a benchmark using coreplayer and it will tell u the performance.
Guest kav Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 i get faster transfers from internal than a class 6 microsd when transferring from pc to phone for both. aceofrazgriz, i dont mean to offend but how in the hell can u get performance faster than a class 6 sd card?, a class 6 sd card is made for HD video and pic files. they have a data transfer rate of 45Mbps!!!!! using an external sata II drive connected to usb 2.0/Firewire, it get transfer rates of average 39 to 42 Mbps, the port on the omnia is not really supporting these rates of transfer since it is not a standard usb port. the max rate of transfer i usually get to my omnia and my class 6 SDHC is around 14-15Mbps. how is it that u get such transfer rates?

Try to put some mp3's in the root of 'My Storage', do they show up?
Guest xfer85 Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) I'll try that Kav and get back here, thanks! js3339: Could it be ROM's issue?
