Guest FlorianO Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Hello all, I'm currently looking for a VoiP (i.e. SIP) client that works when the device is in standby mode. I've been tested Fring with a borrowed SIP account and it worked from the first try. The biggest problem is that the app does not appear to "wake up on ring" i.e. does not work if the device is in standby mode TIA for any help / hints, Florian Edit: Apparently it works if the connection is over 3G but not over WLAN ?!?! That will shorten battery life _a lot_ because wlan will be connected all the time.
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 js3339 is right. You are most likely using WiFi in power saving mode which will turn off WiFi when the device goes into standby. Go to Settings/Power. Select the WiFi tab, and then uncheck the box. Here you can also change your standby settings as well. For a VoIP, I use Skype for WinMo and it is fantastic! For better battery life, you may want to consider an updated ROM, if you don't already have one - depends on how old your phone is. The general new one is DXIA5 and the battery life is great even with heavy usage of BT, GPS, and WiFi. Check out this link for info on a very good custom ROM. http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-r...rom-18-03-2009/

Thanks.
