Noob questions - potential omnia owner

After a lengthy time reading these boards, I have finally joined up, hello to you all!

Currently I own a Nokia N95, I've had this since launch, great phone but looking for a larger screen, due to my visual impairment. In the past I've had the original SPV, SPV E200 & SPV C500, so I am familiar with the 'windows environment' and the ability to 'customise' the phone, however with time, the OS has been developed and I am aware that the OS for the omnia is way different.

I'll cut to the chase; I am looking to purchase a second hand Samsung Omnia, whether it's from Ebay, Av Forums, CEX or other. I'm currently on a sim only 02 tarrif, and more than happy with it, it's just that 02 don't have this phone on their network.

I've a couple of questions:

1) I'd like to know what should I be looking out for in terms of 'condition, unlocked, branded/debranded if purchased from the formentioned 'outlets'.

2) Debranding: Is it just a case of identifying the network the phone is on (if locked to it), visiting Samsung's website, keying in the omnia version and downloading the relevent firmware? If not is there a sticky on how to debrand?

FYIO: To debrand I would be using an WinXP machine.
