Guest Yunabeco Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 I'd like to access the internet when my Omnia is connected to the computer via the USB cable, but it somehow doesn't work. The sync goes fine, I can transfer files without problems, but the device won't access the PC's network no matter what. The PC is connected to the Internet through a standard router, but the only way to get stuff to work on the device is to use the wireless function (or data calls). USB advanced functionality is off. I use Vista 32. Anyway, I'd like to be able to use the PC's internet through USB. Is this possible?
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 "USB advanced functionality is off." that's the cause... you need to enable it
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 i dont have vista box at the moment because i'm with XP now... only tested once with vista few months ago, and if i remember correctly, when i un-checked this option, my connection went down immediately. few things to play around that might get your device internet enable 1. Open your ActiveSync, choose File -> Connection Settings, tick the last box "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to desktop, then try or 2. select the network which your PC uses to connect internet, click Properties, and in Advanced tab, select the option to enable internet sharing, then try or 3. temporary exit Virus scan and firewall on your PC and try if none of the above work, then i really cant help B)
Guest poedgirl Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 I get this all the time. In Windows Mobile Device Center, go into the Connection Settings window, uncheck "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC", click OK, re-open the window and re-check the option. For some reason this works, no idea why, but I do it all the time as I am regularly debugging apps on it which require network access.
Guest Yunabeco Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Still no change. That's weird. I tried: -Unticking, closing, reopening and ticking back "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC" -Enabling advanced network functionality and disabling it -Pausing my antivirus/firewall My Local network connection is properly shared. For some reason, enabling advanced network functionality and connecting the device to the PC tells me after a while that it didn't manage to get a server-assigned IP address, though synchronization works well. All interfaces under the Wifi/Netwrk tab are on server-assigned. I'm going to try kicking WMDC out and putting it back later.
Guest Yunabeco Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Removed the WMDC update and WMDC itself, deleted key "HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE Services" in desktop's registry, and reinstalled WMDC. Without advanced network functionality, the device gets a correct DNS but doesn't connect. With advanced network functionality, the device gets a correct DNS but doesn't get a correct IP address from the desktop; Had to manually set IP:169.254.2.1/Subnet:255.255.0.0/Gateway:169.254.2.2 on the Remote NDIS interface. But even with that, connection fails.
Guest Reuben (MY) Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 just to share my settings, i've just tested internet connection through ActiveSync and it works for me with these settings:
