Need some help. I've always installed my applications under 'my storage', however im shocked to see the message that the storage memory is low on disk space. I went to check my memory, and noticed the following :

total space : 86.7mb

used : 85.68 mb

Explains why im getting seemingly very laggy. What am i doing wrong? I noticed the games even though i choose to install on my storage, it seems to be using the phone's memory instead?

well that seems to be a problem... i myself had a similar problem.... when i started loading games i thought device storage amd my storage was the same so i had to move them when i noticed the lag and popup notices....

but yours seems a bit more complexx... when you go to select your storage make sure the black dot moves from device storage to my storage

if its still happening your gonna need to take your phone in i thinks

do you have Resco Explorer? maybe you should check on My Documents and Program Files folder size on main rom, just to ensure none of the big file went into main rom instead of My Storage.

Yes, there is. Do i just cut and paste the big files to under my storage? Would it alter any registry or make any programs not workable anymore?

what are those file? care to list down some of the names? there are too many possibility for memory full, e.g. placing Dictionary file in My document, setting camera folder to main rom, saving auto recording calls folder in main rom etc etc... so before moving any file, you need to know what application created those files, and change application setting to store files in My Storage instead. last thing to do after finishing all settings, is to move old files B)

Not really that helpful. Get throttle Storage, and get a view of the storage memory. I believe you have to click on 'My Storage' and 'Storage Card' and click remove. Use that to see what the biggest folder is, and also run cleartemp.

Even though you may install apps onto your storage card some of them will either

1. install to memory no matter where you point them to

2. install majority of files onto storage area but place certain files required to run onto memory

As mentioned it is best to get an app to clear your cache and temporary files directories regulary

Thanks.

I've actually run throttle Storage, lots of info there, not sure what are the ones that i need to note.

Also installed cleartemp. Ran it and removed some useless stuffs. However, i dont really like to clear temp files like my keys and stuffs, cos i prefer my phone to save those details.

Im thinking of moving all the additional programs that i have (those not default when i got my omnia) to a folder under 'my storage'. Would that cause any programs to not work? Is it even advisable? I cant seem to locate which are the files that i've to move, or those which are big enough.

You can select which stuff cleartemp deletes, so just uncheck keys/passwords/whatnot. As for moving stuff, you'll want to uninstall the program and re-install it. Things are linked in the registry and programs menu. You would have to make sure you moved everything correctly, and some cannot be moved (and still work).

Ah i see, thanks for your prompt assistance. However, im puzzled by this. I install everything to 'my storage' whenever prompted the option. So im not sure how i used up that much phone's memory.

Im using SPB shell btw. Just wonderin, whats the standard/average usage of the phone's memory? like 40mb out of 86mb?

Not sure, it probably depends on the skin. I haven't used SPB Shell in a long time.

Do you have the iMarche skin installed? Did you put that in 'My Storage'?

Open throttle storage, click on the 'My storage' circle in the inner most ring, and click exclude. What is the next biggest root folder?

With the stock rom and a hard reset, your phone already has 36MB of that memory used up, with about 50MB free. This will vary from carrier to carrier, but is roughly accurate.

One place to look for a lot of consumed storage is in messaging. Deleted SMS and MMS messages don't really go away until you empty Deleted Items in the messaging app. Same with emails. So, if you do a lot of SMS/MMS, and don't empty out Deleted Items, this will suck up space. Not to mention messages that you haven't deleted, but are just leaving around in the inbox or filed in other folders.

If email isn't configured to automatically manage deleted items efficiently, space can be sucked down by this feature easily in a day or two. Remember that you can only redirect attachments to storage cards -- not the email body itself.
