Guest msra6la2 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hello from a Newbie, Having recently moved from the UK to Hong Kong on a permanant basis (well, I work for a major I-bank, basically I either had to move or I'd get the sacking letter B) ), it's sensible for me to get a monthly contract with a HK mobile service provider. So there you go, I got myself an 18 months contract (soooo much cheaper than shitty O2 UK) with 30MB/month internet access. Now I am facing a huge problem. I slotted in the HK SIM card then typed in all the internet settings that I was given by the service provider, but it didn't work. I searched through Google for a solution and basically I found one (see "a little note" below) that allows me to go onto the internet. However, using such method does not allow me to use 1) GPS, 2) MSN, 3) checking Hotmail and 4) Streaming videos. I am just wondering if anyone of you has had a similar problem before? it would be of great help if this is solved, ta! P.S I rang up the service provider and even went to a local store to get it sorted but no joy P.S.1. I also rang up Samsung HK but they said the model they support is the SGH-i908 not my i900, it's best for me to ring up Samsung UK (hmmm, I am in fu*king HK and I am always working during their (Samsung UK) office hours) I sent them an e-mail a couple of days ago but them useless tw*ts haven't bothered to reply ************************************************* a little note: 1) turn off the phone (with UK SIM slotted in), now swap the SIM with a HK SIM 2) turn on the phone, it automatically asks you whether you wanna switch the 3G settings to that of the HK service provider (PCCW HK in my case), click no. Soft reset the phone 3) once the phone restarts, go to settings, connections connections, add a new modem connections 4) type in the service provider's name (Cellular GPRS), APN and username + password (no username and password required in my case) under username + password, tap advanced, manually type in IP address then click finish 5) tap managing existing connections (there are 2, the newly created one, and the original one (O2 Mobile Web) that I used when I lived in the UK), choose the newly created one 6) click proxy settings tap, tap both tabulers and tap advanced and typed in the IP adress again under server in both HTTP and WAP. And in HTTP, change the port code to 8080 (initially it's 80) this method gets internet working but other internet (such as GPS) applications fail in style just like when I follow the official set-up
