backlight, suspend, semantics, and an audio problem

So does it annoy anyone else that the "turn off backlight" function on our phone actually just dims the backlight? I mean why the @#@$ would they call it "turn off backlight" when it doesn't actually turn it off?

To make things worse, when I want to turn the backlight completely off when running an app I have to SUSPEND the device effectively killing the wifi and causing other problems. I know I can turn off the wifi power saving mode, but that's not the point.

It also seems when the backlight is completely off I have an audio problem. If I run any audio app like WMP, S2P, Resco Pocket Radio, etc. and turn off the backlight the audio gets random pauses in it. This is VERY aggravating since I have to run the apps with the backlight on which totally kills an already horrible battery life.

So I have two questions....

Is there any way to COMPLETELY turn off the backlight without suspending the device?

Has anyone else experienced audio problems with the backlight off and/or the device suspended?

Gahhhh, I don't know if I love or hate this damn phone. B)

I'm not sure as to the whereabouts of the cab, but in a ROM I'm using there's an app that allows you to turn the screen off manually, and will also turn it off when the device suspends. Heck, it might even be a feature of Win Mobile 6.5.

Also, I think you can turn the backlight off by pressing the power button once. As in, give it a tap. Tap it again to turn it back on. I think if you use that in conjuction with "Power on with any key" setting, you can then turn it back on with the unlock key.

The problem with that is when you tap the power button it is considered "suspend", it doesn't just turn off the backlight. And then there is that audio problem..... B)

EDIT: I just installed a program called "Pocket Power Manager" that lets me turn off the screen/backlight without suspendning the device. This fixed the audio problem I described as well.

This seems like a bandaid fix though. It would still be nice to find a way for the OS controlled backlight timeout to actually completely turn off the screen/backlight.

S2U2 has a setting "Blank screen only" but I've never tried that one.
