Mail Tab freezes in Manila2D

For whatever reason, last night, (April 1st, of course), every time I select the mail tab, the entire screen excluding the Start bar freezes. Softkeys are gone, screen is unresponsive and has residual imaging of whatever screen I was on last. What gives?

Measures taken so far: Uninstalled and reinstalled Manila2D. I've downloaded a fresh copy from the main M2D installation page and plan on installing within the hour. Will post if it works. I'm not the only one that has had this happened, but a search didn't turn up any solution.

I don't know why this happens to some people and others not.

I'm not sure if this is for you, but some people fixed the problem completely by moving the mail tab to another location with M2DC.

That's REALLY odd... but I'll try it, hold on...

It didn't work. It still locks up. I moved the Email widget/tab to the left/before the SMS tab. Still freezes.

I had a very similar problem. In my case I believe it was to do with using Windows Live for email, instead of normal POP3. Would this apply to you?

I have Live Search and Windows Live both installed on my i910, but I rarely use either one, and more importantly, neither were running that night it first started locking up.

Another update: The .cab of M2D in the installation manual thread of this forum does NOT work on my i910. I don't remember where I got my copy, but it's one .cab with everything in it, default (Diamond) skin.

Also: The mail tab WORKS if I slide the tabs TO it FROM the Programs tab - but none other than that tab. If I simply tap it, as I am keen to do with visible tabs I need to get it, it will not work. Hope this helps with debugging.

At last someone else has come across this problem and how annoying it is.

To be honest I don't think there is a fix for this. I've tried multiple idea's on trying to fix it. I removed my Hotmail account and Windows Live, I removed System Seven, I installed a new ROM with the updated MD2 on it, still same thing.

For the last two weeks it worked fine, and then for no reason yesterday it locked up about a dozen times. I can still access the Start Menu so I can restart Touchflo.

I've now installed Shokka9's new WM 6.5 rom without MD2 on it, and so far I've had no problem because the Email Tab no longer exists.

I did read somewhere on XDA Dev that many people think the Email tab is by far the weakest element of Touchflo. Its a nice interface, but with it being in development and written to cover so many devices, its bound to go wrong somewhere.

I figured out how to fix it - kinda. This is by no means a debug fix, but it works. Simply apply a different theme completely using M2D, then reapply your preferred theme. For me, I was using the Black and White theme, replaced it with Black Vista, then back to B&W, and it worked.

Doesn't always work, as proved this morning. Switched back to an M2D/WM6.1 rom over the weekend.

Email tab locked up this morning. Tried what you suggested and it didn't work. Locked up again straight away.

Now its being stubborn and not opening the email tab even when I drag over to it. Seriously losing my patience with it.

The application of other themes only worked for me for about four hours. So, for any coders who want to debug this, this is what HAS worked, but only for limited times.

1. Uninstallation and reinstallation of M2D. (Did not work.)

2. Reapplication of theme.

3. Deleting last Email that did not download properly.

4. Deleting last MMS that did not download properly.

5. Deleting all MMS messages.

And this weekend,

6. Hard reset.

I used method 4 three seperate times. It worked for a while. This leads me to believe there's something wrong with the way M2D reads MMS messages and transposes them to the envelope view. But I'm not a coder, and this thing is sending me into a passionate rage. FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Yeah I'd agree its the way M2D is previewing the email. I personally would prefer to do away with the preview and have something similar to the SMS tab.

I use Community Seven to push my email from my Gmail account. So I get all my work email forwarded to Gmail, plus all my personal mail. Most days it works fine, but then one completely random email will constantly lock up the tab.

Most days I get Seven to manually refresh the email account, which causes the M2D preview to show no messages, even though if you go into the inbox its up to date synched properly. But if I have to soft reset or change something, it can sometimes reset the preview to start showing again and then the lock ups start again. As I stated in an earlier post, I went for about two weeks with no problems, then 12 lock ups in one day after I had soft reset.

Would be nice if a coder could look at the xml page for the email tab and see if there is a way of disabling the preview, or changing it.

I'm thinking about going for the hard reset tonight. This is just unacceptable, if you ask me. I think I'm going to start hunting for other interfaces to run my Omnia with - I don't like the two Samsung included, and don't even talk about Windows' contribution - hopefully free, but at this point, I'm willing to down some cash just to get something stable and convenient. Also thinking about hacking and putting iPhone firmware on, then jailbreaking THAT.

I already established that. But it's still messed up. I deleted ALL my mail, ALL my MMS messages, and it still locks up.
