Guest justpratik Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 i have seen this. and our omnia is far better then it. so chance of windows mobile 6.5 is getting more and more. Finally, Microsoft's issued a clarification regarding upgrades from 6.1 to 6.5: devices that are already out in the marketplace with a minimum of 128MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor or better are theoretically capable of being upgraded -- it's all up to licensees to decide whether they want to go to the trouble of offering the upgrades to their customers. Let's hope, shall we? Full Story HERE

Testing a new OS is a very huge process and don't think that Samsung will put so much effort in mantaining i900 updated. Beside this, consider also the economical aspect of upgrading. I think that WM 6.5 is just WM6 with a more user (and finger) friendly interface, but haven't had the time to look at its specs.

There are already custom Omnia ROMS with 6.5
Guest dwethiswar Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 is 6.5 faster? and more important, has it better battery life? cause those are the only reasons I'd choose it over what I have now
Guest DJRedLine Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 is 6.5 faster? and more important, has it better battery life? cause those are the only reasons I'd choose it over what I have now The latest ROM which i am testing is Sector's DXIA5_21198_vH2 and i would say that apart from a few bugs (incoming caller ID for example) it is a lot smoother and faster especially on titanium and honeycomb. Battery life on the DXIA5 ROM seems to be pretty good and normal day to day usage on 3G/Wifi etc can last just over 2 days, which on a windows mobile is pretty good.
Guest kav Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Have you guys actually looked in the ROM section? There are already custom Omnia ROMS with 6.5 yes there is already a custom rom with winmo 6.5, but its a "custom ROM", most people are in a way sceptical to take the jump, and go to custom roms, as this voids the warranty on their omnias. its nice to see that it can actually work on the omnia, i mean the win 6.5 and that there are no really hardware limitations to the use of winmo 6.5 on the omnia, but most prefer to wait for the official upgrades since in that way they can keep the waranty as well.

I was under the impression that all Windows Mobile 6.5 phones required a special "Windows Start" hardware button? That would limit 6.5 to new release phones. Or maybe I was reading about WM7... But yeah, I've definitely found the current custom ROMS to run faster than Windows Mobile 6.1, so I'm looking forward to a firm release with all the bugs fixed - and hopefully even better performance B)
Guest Compuse Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Windows Mobile 6.5 phones required a special "Windows Start" ^ My problem with it too, .. luckily i haven't tested it on my own omnia! B)

I wasn't saying you have to install a custom ROM just making the point that it is already possible to run 6.5 on Omnia since the OP had said "Let's hope, shall we?" Edited April 3, 2009 by 3shirts
