Guest awarner (MVP) Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 For must have (and best of all) free software have a look at paul's post HERE You must have Activesync if you are using XP but with Vista you need to have Device Manager both are available from Microsoft HERE Apart from the posts in this section for updating your ROM I can not really help in this department as I do not own an Omnia myself and prefer to give instructions from experience.
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 You'll have to read the custom ROM posts carefully because some of them may require a two-step process if your phone has never been flashed with a custom ROM before. For example if you flash a ROM by Taril for the first time - which is superb by the way - you will have to flash a "firststep" ROM if you're phone's ROM is above older than a certain release, or has never had a custom ROM before. Afterwards, you can flash the custom ROM itself. See details about it here... http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-r...rom-18-03-2009/ If you are flashing one of the SPB cooked ROMs, then you'll definitely need to purchase a copy yourself because you'll need a license key anyway. Most of the programs that you can buy for Winmo can be installed from your PC if they are an .exe. Make sure that your USB connection settings in your phone are set to Active Sync and not Mass Storage first.
Guest ilyukha Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Search the ROM forum for the incorrect software version error. SPB is a program from a 3rd party company, so yes you will have to pay for it. M2D is an interface ripped from the HTC phones and modified a little bit. This one is free. I would not say either is a must have app. If you like the appearance and functionality of your Omnia, then dont bother. Regarding Resco explorer: do you have .cab or .exe file. CAB file are the same as exe, but for WinMo. So you just need to copy it on your storage and run, It will install the program. If it is exe file then you need to install it through activesync
