Guest Ashley90218 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) If I was to purchase on of these for the omnia. How would the data usage be charged? Would it come out of my data package with my provider. I have the unlimited internet 500mb pack with vodafone, not sure if that covers it or is it an alternative method of getting data or is it free to run? Oh also which is better, IGO or TT? Guest Flaw1973 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Hi, there's no data usage, when you buy igo or tom tom, you also buy the maps no need for any conection to use both programs during usage. I have Tom Tom in Pna and Igo on my Omnia, like both of them, more used to Tom Tom, but both of them are very user friendly. Best choice for you is the one with the most map coverage for your location, check the map coverage in each one of the web sites.
Guest Ashley90218 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Hi not sure i follow you, ok i understand if you get directions but if you use it so it knows where you are i.e turn left in 10 yards doesnt that involve the internet?

Now it does not. This is the whole idea of GPS. It has a built in chip that communicates with sattelirtes and gets your position information that way. The only time you may get charged for data is if you use assisted GPS option (it is in your settings). In this case it will be getting data of the servers once in a while to assist your GPS to get connected to satalites quicker (in lamens terms :excl: ). You do not have to use it. I think it is turned off by default. In terms of iGo and Tom Tom: igo will work on your omnia right away. For Tom Tom you will need to buy and install a separete program called GPSGate. So in general, iGo is a better solution for Omnia (IMHO).
