Guest Omega Ra Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 So with the new i910 Gps unlocked, i thought i would start a thread on some of the best GPS software out! I am currently installing the Garmin XT and hope to have Tom Tom and IGo 8 On there soon! Please show us some of your works and what you think about these apps! I got iGO, still getting used to it...just got it today..
Guest krelvinaz Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I'm just interested in a very simple gps app that shows the current location info, perhaps sats, speed etc... but no navigation stuff. I don't have any real interest in navigation software (maps etc) as I have a large expensive GPS system in my truck for that. Much safer to use that then a small screen device.
Guest thedarkone Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I got iGO, still getting used to it...just got it today.. Did you install it to you my storage? Is there a setting that needs to be configured.... I cannot get it to pick up GPS.... I think I am doing something wrong... mind sharing how you got it working?
Guest necosino Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) I use iGO 8. Just don't plan a route and it'll just show your location, direction, speed, etc. Installed on "My Storage" Set it to COM8, Baud 57600 and make sure your location is set to ON in the GPS settings. Works fine, but takes 1-3 minutes to get a lock, during this time, the GPS seems to actually be reset (says GPS disconnected, then after a second comes back on and locks almost instantly) Edited April 10, 2009 by necosino

Google maps is probably the best at that and i think the microsoft live app comes with that, i havent tested it yet
Guest theidoctor.org Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Does anyone have the garmin mobile XT? i have downloaded a few vehicles, but the map detail is not so great so far. i will test it out this weekend and put it on my first posting

Works fine for me. Provides accurate information.
Guest Turborepu Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I got Igo8 and have been using it for the whole day today, logged about 200 miles so far. very accurate, but the screen turns off if it is not connected to the car charger which will require you to press something to wake the device. There is a setting to keep the backlight on, but i will try it out tomorrow, i'm sure that will fix that issue.. I managed to bug it out and it was off by like 1/2 a city block east of me, i just restarted the program, although i'm sure there might be a way to turn the gps off and back on to reset the signal in the program.. The address input is a tad funky at first, till you get the hang of it. it is actually fast. This is my first nav system though so i am easily amazed.. lol..
Guest asimsinan Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I used several GPS Softwares: Garmin Mobile XT, Igo8.3, Mcguider, route66,iguidance,tomtom. In my opinion Igo is the best. It is very customizable (cars, car lights, weather, skin), works great, tells you the street names, has 3d buildings, you can use the fly over property if you install some skins (very useful). Keyboard is great. When you type the address, it brings only the possible choices. As the second one, I recommend Garmin.
Guest Furtive Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 How are you getting Mobile XT working? It keeps looking for a bluetooth GPS receiver on mine. I can't find a setting to change the GPS settings.
Guest begbie87 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Got IGO the other day and works a treat highly reccomended.
Guest barnaby420 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Got IGO the other day and works a treat highly reccomended. Isn't IGO EU only? If not, where do you get the US version? I'm not seeing it on their site.
Guest somedude Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I tried IGO 8 and Garmin, I like Garmin better because it seems suited for the american market. IGO uses the metric system, im sorry but i forgot how far a meter is lol. Tell me the distance in feet and miles dammit!
Guest yojoe600 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Isn't IGO EU only? If not, where do you get the US version? I'm not seeing it on their site. you can get usa maps and voices so it will work... its the same program with just different voices and maps

If you look on their site for where to buy and switch to America...you can go to their US distributors website and they have it..the name is slightly different, but same product.

Mine have just the lines for streets and names of POI's.. i want to see the buildings and stuff lol.
Guest barnaby420 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 It seems that out of the available ones in the US market, Garmin XT, TomTom Nav 6, and OCN 8 (us version of igo8), they all come preinstalled on a SD card that you have to use, except for TomTom. Is there a way around that? I'd prefer to be able to install any GPS software and maps to My Storage, and keep my card free for music, movies, etc.

A10: Tap on Settings | Regional | and under Units, tap on it once to toggle between Kilometers / meters and Mile / Feet (or yards).
Guest jcortes Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Sorry if this is a stupid question. But where is the post that has the link to the GPS unlock ROM and the user guide to install it thanks!!!
Guest somedude Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Q10: How, exactly, do I change from kilometers to miles? A10: Tap on Settings | Regional | and under Units, tap on it once to toggle between Kilometers / meters and Mile / Feet (or yards). I think i tried that before, and the miles were off. It was like they just substituted meters for miles. And we all know meters != miles. Either way Garmin Mobile xt is just better.
Guest smoothcrooner Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I've used iGo 8, Gamin Mobile XT and Tomtom on my i900, but I find CoPilot Live 7 to be the best of the lot.
Guest acoustics86 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I got my omnia about 2 weeks ago and the gps is still locked. Was there a firmware update or something that I missed? I heard all the news about how they were going to unlock the GPS sometime soon, but didnt see anything official saying they did. I do not want to put a custom rom on it just yet, although I know they are so much better, just in case I will be exchanging my omnia soon because of small difficulties. Hopefully the new one I get will have GPS unlocked already.

Guest dhoppy Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Sorry if this is a stupid question. But where is the post that has the link to the GPS unlock ROM and the user guide to install it thanks!!! There is no such ROM and user guide. This is all one practical joke. It was hard to pull off, some of us spent a lot of time creating a 90+ page thread about unlocking the GPS.
