Guest Chugworth Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Herein we will discuss geotagging on Verizon's Omnia i910. :excl: So while firmware CC20 enables GPS, Samsung's camera application still does not geotag the pictures. Yesterday I posted one workaround, which is to use the locr application. The disadvantage to that is that you have to select each picture manually to geotag it. Samsung's camera application does have some GPS features coded in to it. I have searched through the executable and found GPS referenced a few times. Apparently it's just not "opened up" to us. I wonder what would happen if we took the camera application from an i900 and tried running it on the i910? :excl:
Guest Chugworth Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Hey, I was looking through some of the images in the Omnia Photos thread, and I have not found one yet that was actually geotagged? Does the i900 even have this ability?
Guest bawdiest Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Hey, I was looking through some of the images in the Omnia Photos thread, and I have not found one yet that was actually geotagged? Does the i900 even have this ability? Sure, it has. There is a big problem. If you enable geotagging, you can use your camera only when the phone has found some sattelites and was able to determine your position. It takes some time (especcialy indoor) and normaly you dont want to let your friends waiting. Thats why many users (mee too) dissable this function. In some early roms you was able to use the camera normaly and as soon the phone has found sattelites you was informed about it. It is a miracle for me, why samsung took this functionality out.
Guest Chugworth Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Well... I have been trying the "camera.exe" files from various i900 images. I did not see this functionality in DXHJ1. However, many other builds did list the GPS option in the camera settings! When you enable it, then you will see a gray satellite dish icon in the top-left, and after a moment it would turn white. Then when you take pictures, the pictures would be geotagged with the altitude and latitude, but not longitude. I tried many different builds, but none of them would show the longitude. This functionality looks like it would be pretty cool... if it worked correctly. :excl:
Guest Chugworth Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Well I have a solution now that's not exactly ideal, but it is very close to ideal: Use locr 2.0 Alpha 2. You just start the program, let it find your GPS location, and then start the camera. Every picture you take will be automatically geotagged in the background. :excl:

[EDIT: Just tried it out, and it works great with both the regular GPS and the WPS Location.] Edited May 1, 2009 by lordricearoni
Guest soup108 Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 are you using the locr app with a leaked ROM or verizons stock set up ? i tried it - and it does find my location with WPS ( not with GPS ). but it isn't attaching the coords to the photo ? i also tried manually assigning the geotag - and locr said there was no location information ? thanks. Guest leland_jr Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 The GPS Today app can incorporate a Geotagger that looks pretty promising... See: http://www.geoterrestrial.com/
