Guest E=mc² Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I just wondered, how many people have been successful in creating their very own netbook hackintosh? How long has it been since it completely bombed and you had to reinstall everything? If at all? Presently I'm running XPSP3 again after it failed to reboot around 7 hours after I had installed 10.5.5 and running Software Update (Ignoring the official 10.5.6 update of course). I've decided to give OSX another try later tonight, and just stick with 10.5.4 to see how that goes. I really should clone the HDD once I've got that far! XP is OK, but it just doesn't have the feel of OSX that I've got myself used to over the past 4 years (Bloody hell that's a long time away from Windows!). Anyway, verdict?
Guest E=mc² Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 OK, 2 nights later and I'm still running 10.5.4, and it's as stable as a rock. I shall not be upgrading the OS until I get myself another HDD and clone this setup as I don't want to go through all the grief of setting up and installing all my apps again! Thought I'd reply to give all those potential Wind/4211 buyers a bit of confidence!
Guest Cinestral Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Hey there! I'm new to the entire hacking scene but was excited to try. Picked up an MSI Wind about a week ago and added 1GB of RAM. (I tried 2GB in the slot but I just got a black screen. The maximum RAM is 2GB. ) Using Paul's guide, I'm now running OS X 10.5.4. It's stable as a rock. A) The internet works great! It took a little time to learn the software installation. (IT came with Realtek 8187se card.) :excl: I use a mini wireless mouse because the track pad stinks. (the buttons are too small) C) I used an external USB DVD/CD drive. This worked perfectly. D) My battery level indicator in previous installs worked appropiately. Now, my computer thinks it's an iMac (I don't know why) so it won't load battery indicator. Battery life seems all right, I only have a 3 cell battery. E) I've got an old Griffin iMic so I can work with the audio problems but my speakers work as expected. I either mute the sound or let sound play through the small Wind speakers. No problems loading Office, iTunes, or any software really. (so far) The entire process took about three days in between chores at home. I did a lot of starting from the beginning (wiping the hard drive) but learned how to navigate through the new territory. Have never worked in terminal before so I was cautious. All in all, a good experience,
Guest hummel Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I also installed osx om my msi wind The ride was a little bumpy but now it runs very stable. 10.5.4 is easy to install, but the next updates are a bitch. I had to re-do them like 4 times. Everytime the system wouldnt boot. And i absolutely wanted 10.5.6 on my wind because i wanted to install iLife. I got some excellent help from someone from this forum, and now it runs like a kitten :D Im also a switcher, and i love working with osx
Guest E=mc² Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 OK, after procrastinating and finally getting up to 10.5.6 (Which required a full reinstall of everything!) I can confirm my netbook runs like a dream. I've tried XP and Linux on the 4211, which have to be honest been a bit uninspiring. It's a fairly quirky process, but once you get the hang of it, it's also very satisfying! Verdict: Do it!
Guest E=mc² Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Windows 7 next? :D P LOL. I've always said that if Vista was a good OS, I'd happily convert from a Mac... I've not been swayed just yet! Let's see if Windows 7 lives up to it's hype.
Guest E=mc² Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Seems there's been plenty of views to this thread, yet not so many replies, what gives?? On 10.5.7 now, with a nifty automatic headphone fix that you can also find on this message board. I have never needed to reboot the machine unless for an update or installer that requires me to do so, though I guess if you're used to Macs at all, you'll find that's quite common!
Guest JuneMSWIND Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 "Seems there's been plenty of views to this thread, yet not so many replies, what gives??" Would you be willing to help a new comer out? How did you get the update on there without crashing out the system? I installed from MSWINDOSX86.ISO and its 10.5.4 still. Here's what works on mine Internal speakers Ethernet(internet works) WIFI Camera(not with photobooth) CARD READER What does not work. Mic port Internal MIC(really bugs me! I'm a skype addict) Headphones jack. Any advice on what I should do next?

Hi, If you get hold of the Kalyway installs and follow the instructions on the various messages on this board, I'll gladly help you out, but unfortunately I've no experience with the MSIOSX86 installs. As for the Mic and internal Mic, I don't believe there has been a fix for these as yet. I posted a fix for the headphones on this message board which I think should also fix the Mic, but I've had no luck with that (Though I haven't tested with an external microphone yet). Sorry I couldn't help any more!
