Verizon's Signal Data

I know for a fact that at least on the Omnia, and probably all other phones, Verizon locks all the signal data. Nothing but Windows Mobile itself can get this info. This is very annoying as S2U2 says "No Service" , and services like Navizon don't even work at all :excl: . (I'd really like to be able to earn money from logging access points and cell towers :excl: . ) So...You all unlocked the GPS, can we do it for the cell data?

Personalizer 3_1 enables programs like Samsung Today 2 and S2V to see the name you type in for your service. Maybe you can look at that and figure out what registry keys it is getting the info from.

I don't think that's the problem though. The info gets to the signal bar, but somehow Verizon stops it from getting any further. I'll try that and do a before-after registry backup and comepare them. I'll post back after.

I was just about to say that that happened. The problem, though, is that Navizon and Google's "My Location" still don't work. Maybe we could get around this somehow... I like the idea of not needing to carry around my GPS for Google Maps, and also being able to make money logging cell towers. We're partly there, though...we know that at least the signal strength gets by. As far as I know, we should be able to somehow be able to get the towers' ID's

and it's definitely not accessing the newly unlocked gps?

The only way for Google's Location feature to work is via GPS.

Maybe you are thinking of WL maps, where Locate Me does not work.

No, GMaps can also use cell tower triangulation.

So we still don't know how far the data gets on any rom so far.

Can anyone try Navizon on the new rom? If the phone indicator turns green when it is started, we will know that verizon freed the cell data as well as the GPS.

I've used Navizon with Wozzers ROM, based on the leaked rom. The GPS does work if you configure it to COM 8 Baud 57600 I think it is. The phone portion does not work. From what the forums say on Navizon CDMA is a locked network and will not work on the phone portion for Navizon. I too would love to have this feature because the WiFi doesn't seem to pick up that much driving around. Good luck though.

I read the forums too. One thread was about Verizon and Sprint. For one Sprint user, it was working fine. There was only one problem; the towers were being logged as VERIZON! A mod said that this was a bug because they were both CDMA networks! This means that cdma towers can be logged, just verizon doesn't like it (probably because they don't want people using virtual GPS programs). So there is a way, we just need to find it.

Well there's your answer, the leaked ROM didn't do it. Let's hope for a fix in the May official release, or a hack before then.

That's just what I'm looking for. Some kind of workaround, because who actually believes Verizon will do it for us? Like I said 2 posts back, there is a way, we just need to find it.

I have an external gps. It's just hard to remember to take it along every time something unexpected is going to happen :excl: . Plus I still like Navizon's incentives for using their service. Besides, think of all the points I could rack up on a trip from Massachusetts to Washington DC!

sometimes i wish people would just buy one of these.

Standalone GPS units aren't for everyone. Seeing as how the phone has GPS, I'm not going to pay for another unit to do what my phone already can. Plus, I use GPS at times where I wouldn't normally have a standalone with me.
