Getting tired of slow GPS lock?

Problem solved: BAF GPS Toggle

Keep it on, running all the time, and it keeps your GPS locked (or at least seeking) sat's. PLUS you can run this with other GPS apps simultaneously (like iGO8). Just pop it onto your home screen, tap it to turn on your GPS, wait for it to get a lock, and then open your GPS app and you'll have an instant lock :excl:

No need to turn it off before running your nav software, it doesn't claim the port! That means you can turn it on, switch to your preferred home screen (Widgets, SPB Mobile, etc) and forget about it! The next time you open your nav software, your GPS timings will already be in sync, resulting in an INSTANT LOCK! No more waiting!!!

I've been running it for about 2 hours now with no battery drain :excl:

And just to set the tone: "Screw you Verizon, we don't need your aGPS!!!"

Granted that will work, I have used the GPS toggle for several phones. If left on, you will notice a battery drain by the end of the day. I have accidently left it turned on (other phones) and You will definitely notice a drop in the battery. I had to charge the phone by the evening or at least that is what I have seen in the past unless the Omnia has a better battery saving feature.

That sounds good, but if it acts that way I think it`ll make the omnia HOT on the back side... You know that issue :excl:

Yeah, my phone is warm, but not as hot as if I had Wifi on or had been transferring 1GB or music over. As for battery drain, after over 2 hours of screen off, gps on, I went from 80% to 60%.

Then again, I have a charger 2' away, and a car charger to take care of that issue :excl: Anybody that wants to use their Omnia as a GPS should definitely invest the $5 into a car charger (on ebay, at least) for those long trips :excl:

So, an alternative to using it all day, turn it on like 15-20 minutes before you are going to start your trip :excl:

Been using this for a couple days now. It does sometime lose a lock especially if you go inside. It also does use Battery as the GPS needs to be on, but it uses a lot less bat than say Gmaps does. Just look at cpu usage and it is easy to see why.

Make sure you load this in your main memory, not storage memory. It is very small, something like 20k.

aGPS would be a better solution since even this can take a long time to get a fix when you first turn it on and doesn't use any extra bat power when you are not using it.

LOL. I find this a good enough fix for now. Yes aGPS would be nice, but until verizon lets us have it or someone figures it out, this will work nicely.

*Bump* Any one else tried this?

Yep.

GMaps got a lock before it did, LOL.

before your know it another ROM will be "Leaked" by verizon staff

these leaks are ways to shut us up and stop calling them. just think about not having to be blamed if we brick our phones :excl:

aGPS will be here before you know it....

Google Maps and this program both see two satellites but are never able to connect to them. Any reason why this happens?

About a minute after I posted this program was able to get a lock on 4 satellites and now Google Maps connects almost immediately whether or not this program is running. Thanks!

funny you mention that - I was thinking this was a good way to get "free" testing done - leak it to a rabbid community and let them beat it up - identify the most critical issues, fix them - and release it. Sounds like a good plan to me :-)

I am using GPS Toggle by BAF.cc, I seem to be "seeking" 5 satellites quite frequently, but never can get a lock. I am using Wozzers Cooked rom located here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Print&...68&t=286741

Anyone else experiencing these issues with the i910?

Ok NVM, I fixed it. Decided to do a *228 Option 2 & went for a drive outside of my Apartment building and was on the main road locked with 7 sats. Works great!

I dont know how to add GPS toggle to program or even make it an ICON. I know its installed cuz when I go to the today screen and uncheck the Samsung Widgets I can check on BAF GPS TOGGLE and it will show on the screen. I can turn it on and off..then change the TODAY back to Samsung Widgets. But it seems like everytime I do that, the GPS TOGGLE is on OFF. But how do I get BAF GPS TOGGLE to show up in program or anywhere so that I can access it with the Samsung Widget screen is on

Yea, is there something like this that is not a "today" plugin? A few of the major shells (m2d, samsung widgets, etc) do not play nice when they are not the only "today" item.

Google will switch the GPS on if you have GPS selected.

Basically what it does is keep a lock on Sats with out running a full blown GPS Program therefore using less battery and resources. By keeping track of the Sats it then enables your GPS program to get an instant lock instead of the 3-4 minute wait (sometimes even longer) to lock. Keep in mind that going indoors or similar activity can cause the sats to "go out of Range" (lack of a better term).
