Guest semmtexx Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 hey quick maybe stupid question. When my omnia is not on a phone call or is connected to broadband access it says "EV". When i am in a call however, it says "1X". Doesnt matter what area i'm in, whenever the phone is in a call i get the 1X. I thought 1X was like extended network. My treo 700wx always stayed in EV even on a call, but in bad areas it would go to 1X. Dumb question? Thanks!

If you make a topic that is called "quick question" it's obvious that you will have a lot of views. I viewed the topic to see if I could help you, but I couldn't so I didn't reply, guess that's the case for most of the 31 views
Guest Rooster Misfit Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 once your phone connects to the internets it is connected even durring the call.. just cause it doesnt say EV doenst mean your not still connected... you can even search the net while your on the phone. so its not really something to worry about. hope that helps
Guest jcortes Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) Lose the attitude and be patient. But i agree with the statement above. Edited April 15, 2009 by jcortes

Guest Adrynalyne Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 ....no no no. EV means that Verizon's 3G data network is available. Light grey color EV means disconnected. White color EV means active. You see 1x while on a call, because that is Verizon's voice network. 1x= voice. EV=EVDO. Two different things. If you see 1x, you are either on a call, or in an area that cannot receive a broadband signal. If you are on a call, you are NOT on the internet, regardless of what is displayed. CDMA does not allow simultaneous data and voice connections.

One of the things you fine folks will find out quickly about me, is if I am not 100% sure about what I say, I don't say it.

Other operators (like AT&T in US and all the one in Western Europe and Japan) use a different 3G standard, UMTS (W-CDMA) that allows simultaneous voice calls and data transmission. My reply was only for CDMA, per what the original poster is using. In addition, sending an SMS will switch you momentarily to 1x, as well. Edited April 16, 2009 by Adrynalyne
