Guest dwallersv Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 In this post elco27 talks about the hardware regarding the internal mass storage. It sounds like it's removable. Is it possible to open an 8GB Omnia and replace the 8GB module with a 16GB module, close it up, format it, and have it "just work"? Anyone know where to get a 16GB module? Anyone know if the H/W is the same on the 900 and 910? (I have a 910) Last but not least, anyone know if there is a 32GB module out there somewhere, OEM or 3rd party, made for the Omnia?
Guest necosino Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Possibly, but risky as hell, too. The hardware is different in the i910 (different radios, for starts) For the memory though, I think the i900 16GB storage might work in the i900; it'd probably have the same partition table, etc... Then again, you could just go and get a 16GB HCSD card instead..

Anyway, if you replace the "mystorage" with a 16gb one and then a 16gb card...32gb :excl: sounds like an idea, but yeah risky...I wouldn't want to open up my phone...I would get a spare one and tinker..if all works well then just do the ESN tranfer :excl:
Guest Omega Ra Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 yeah, bnut if you get one of those AND replace the internal storage with the 16gb version :excl: lots of space.
Guest psypher Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) if its sdhc it has technically no limitation... so 32gb/64gb/128gb, up to like 4Tb or something silly cards etc can be put in (when they have been made) so no need to hardware hack your phone. Edited April 15, 2009 by psypher

Someplace in the GOS forum there is a link to a guy that pulled his apart. I saw the actual part numbers in the 8GB chip in his photos so I bet yes, you could swap them but the level of difficulty is anyones guess. Can you find these modules on the open market? Probably through a distributor. As for how it connects to the main board, unknown. Could be a ton of solder joints so tiny you don't want to mess with it. As a broadcast engineer I had until last week (laid off - economy) access to a miscroscope built for surface mount electronics repair and we did repair some really tiny surface mount devices with lots of skill and relaxed time on our hands to do it in. No way the average tinkeing person with a regular RatShack soldering iron can do surface mount stuff at home effectively. If it plugs in, great, go for it. See if you can find the links to the guy that had his torn down. Wait, here it is: http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/1466894-1.html Best of luck. Search the part numbers on the module as a start. See this image for details. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp73/ko...4/mermorybd.jpg Hope that gets you started. S
