Guest Jeanne8fr Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Hello group, I have this very annoying problem: I have iGo8.3, Destinator7 and Google maps installed on my i900. I have had no problems with GoogleMaps and Destinator7 until I installed iGo8 If I start with a soft reset I can use GoogleMaps and Destinator and go back and forth between the 2 with no GPS problem. If I run iGo8 it works fine also but when I then try to run GoogleMaps or Destinator, they can't find the GPS. I go back to iGo8 and it's still working fine. It's like if grabs the GPS for itself and won't share with the others. If I do a soft reset then it's fine again until I run iGo8. I can't figure it out. Please don't tell me to get lost :-) Any ideas?... Anyone? Thanks, Jeannette
Guest necosino Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 This is common for stand-alone GPS programs, they claim the port that the GPS is assigned to. If you want to use your GPS with multiple programs, try GPSGate
Guest wes58 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 I had the same problem and found out that if you have in your IGo8 sys.txt file the following line: [device] Type="SGH-i900" IGO is using SGH-i900.ini file. In this file there is a following setting: [gps] source="virtserial" I have changed it to whatever port I am using and now it works fine: [gps] port = 3 baud = 4800 File SGH-i900.ini is located in data.zip in config\devices\ folder. You have to update this file and put it back in data.zip. Hello group, I have this very annoying problem: I have iGo8.3, Destinator7 and Google maps installed on my i900. If you want to use your GPS with multiple programs, try GPSGate Everything I read during my research said that you should not need to use GPSGate with iGo8.3. I was already using 2 GPS programs without any problems so I couldn't understand why I couldn't use a third. The solution is in the post below yours. Thanks for he suggestion though. I understand that some programs like Tomtom need GPSGate. Jeannette

Jeannette I am by no means an expert on these things, but I do know that after flashing to the new ROM that enabled GPS it would take a few minutes to get a solid GPS signal with GoogleMaps, but after installing iGo8 I couldn't use it with GPS at all no matter what changes I made. I read about GPSGate and gave it a shot, and after I fired it up GoogleMaps hit GPS within seconds, and iGo got solid signal in not too much more time, both were lightning fast compared to before GPSGate!!! So your probably correct that Gate may not be needed, but it sure does help!!!!

It may make a difference. Jeannette
