Guest Th3rmal Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 When I bought my omnia, it had just halfed in price, and they told me it was because they removed the GPS from it. I still have the External GPS and Enhanced GPS settings there, however when i try to use google maps with GPS, it cant find any satellites. What can i do to get the GPS working?

Sorry to hear about the lack of the GPS, but if you gotta save, then you gotta save. The Omnia is a great device even without the reciever, but if have one you must, then purchase a bluetooth GPS reciever. When you setup your navi program, then make sure that you specify the external reciever - if asked, and then set the app to the same COM port as the setting in your phone. Usually it's COM 3. If you don't already have a navi program, then I recommend Copilot Live 7.

What can i do to get the GPS working? are u sure that they removed the gps? or u take their word for it? i dont think it is so easy to remove the gps chip. the firmware should have trouble functioning properly in respect to the external gps , enhanced gps etc... i would suggest before u invest more in other hardware, just give it a try by installing a gps app trial, like beeline gps or something like that to verify the presence og the gps chip, and u will see if it works or not or if u can get a fix. when i first bought my omnia, i installed iGO right away and it was an old version of iGO and it said didnt detect gps hardware and i was afraid that i was conned out on the fone. but then i tried the beeline gps and after some testing :excl: and probing :excl: i figured out how to use the gps chip on the omnia. google maps is usually not the best indicator for presence of gps chip.. i am using iGO and when i fool around with google maps, it says it cannot detect gps or never finds a fix, but iGO works flawlessly. give it a try.no harm trying.
Guest Th3rmal Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 (edited) Ok im downloading the beeline GPS trial now. Can you please tell me what kinds of testing and probing you did? Edit: Okay i downloaded it, and apparantly it found a working GPS satellite, but it still isnt doing anything :S BAF GPS Toggle also showed that the GPS was on, but it wouldnt seek anything, it would say Seek: 0 :S How long should i wait for it to find a satellite before giving up? Ill try for longer this time, thanks :excl: EDIT: OMG IT WORKED., and it only took like 15 seconds to get a fix...while im indoors in my room...weird. I technically havent done anything to my phone to make the GPS work, but all of a sudden its working.. :excl::D Thanks guys :excl: Edited April 23, 2009 by Th3rmal
