Is there a qr/2d/3d or barcode code reader for the omnia? Preferabally for the i910. I've tried barcorama and I couldn't get it to register the pictures. Any help would be appreciated

well, there are some other progs out there, but i have tried some like the quickmark, and another one, i dont remember the name exactly, but actually none i have tried work properly with the omnia or with an other pda either.

i own an eten g500+ as well and i tried on both the omnia and the g500+ but to no avail. all of the progs actually cant focus the camera adn cannot take the picture of the barcode, ie register it.

Quickmarks has one for the Omnia which I use. It's very quick to recognise

http://www.quickmark.com.tw/En/basic/download.asp

well quickmark had a version 3.8 for the omnia, now i cant really see it in the list, they removed it as they know that it wasnt working properly with the omnia. i tried the 3.8 version and i couldnt get to make it register the barcodes , or even focus on the image or anything.... how could u make it work?

It should. I spent a while helping them debug a version for Omnia!

Anyway here is the version I have that works perfectly

I have three different applications for reading barcodes.

01. i-Nigma; It allows only live-scan mode for Omnia i900. Really fast at detecting and reading various informations from QRcodes - eg., vCard (application allows you to save vCard straight into your phonebook), text messages, URL (application allows you to go IE straight from the scanned URL - only IE allowed, no option to use Opera Mobile). It doesn't allowed me to use Macro mode during scanning so I need to enlarge all the ORcodes on my monitor in order to scan. The camera view within the application is distorted, disoriented and small. But it doesn't matter because it picks up the scan pretty fast, without having to centered the coded within the frame.

02. Barcorama; When you click on START in the application, it will go straight to my built-in camera setting mode. Thus, it allows me to take smaller QRcodes on monitor using Macro mode. Reading is a little slow but various informations are accurate. I haven't tried setting the URL to be opened in Opera Mobile though there is an option for it within the application's setting. This application also allowed me to open up ANY image files with QRCodes already saved in my phone for reading - eg., a friend MMS me a QRcode with his/her vCard/URL/text message, save it into my phone and I launch Barcorama to open up that image file to be read.

03. BeeTagg; It has the nicest interface and many code options for Omnia i900 thus far. It uses live-scan and manual snapshot. Alas, it doesn't allowed me to set my camera for Macro mode. But camera view in the application is more accurate and bigger than i-Nigma. You should check out their website and register with BeeTagg. A lot of cool options for BeeTagg users within the network.

I will recommend BeeTagg for simple and robust usage for mobilephone scanning. You will need Barcorama if you have usage like mine - friends MMS/Email/BT me QRcodes.

At this moment, I still haven't found the most user-friendly + more options for settings barcode reader for Omnia i900. Nokia seems to have a lot of nice built-in or 3rd party applications for this job (Symbian OS). Don't bother to try most of the Java-based application for barcode reading into Omnia i900. It doesn't work! Maybe my Java settings are not updated, I'm not sure. I've only gotten this phone less than a month in Singapore.

i dont understand how u guys could get the barcode readers to work properly on the omnia, i tried but gave up since i either couldnt get it to focus or register the barcode.....

i tried this i-nigma as well and it was really just good looking but not really functional..screwed with the omnia as well, had to soft reset many many times. i tried to get those readers i installed to register some barcodes off the packages at the shopping mall, just to try it :excl: , it didnt work at all. :excl:

That version of quickmarks I posted does all the autofocussing etc. You literally just start it and point it at a QRCode

I've only tried scanning QR, Datamatrix and BeeTagg. I haven't tried 1D barcode.

Try this QRcode with your i-Nigma:-

Try enlarging it if scanning failed. You don't really need to focus or centered the code that hard with i-Nigma. It can either pick it up at one sweep or it can't.

That's the problem - AUTOFOCUS. It has problem picking up normal sized (see the above attached image) QRcodes I found online. As it doesn't allowed me to choose Macro mode on my camera when I launched Quickmarks. AUTOFOCUS made the QRcode on my monitor blur, be it frm 5cm away or 20cm away. Quickmarks just wouldn't pick up the QRcode on my monitor. The same issue I have with i-Nigma. Hence, the work of having to enlarge all the QRcode I seen online is becoming a drag. I haven't tested it on prints, though; eg., mgazine, poster, flyer. Maybe that AUTOFOCUS mode might work all right in that situation. Reflection on the monitor might be an issue for scanning smaller QRcode, you think?

Anyhoo, I'm using another application (reader) in my laptop itself to decode/read QRcode on my monitor. I'm using Swetake for Mac OS X. Decent and accurate. I just want to test all the available QRcode scanner for WM6.1/Omnia i900 out there to confirm which suited my phone/usage best. I can't possibly carry my laptop everywhere to just read the QRcode when I'm out there, innit?

I agree. I use the version that is posted here and i have problems when i want to read some info from another phone (that's why qr codes were made to make thing simple). Both phones are omnias with identical software and i just can't get it to focus. I can read the image if i play with it for about 15 minutes but i can have at least 20 contacts stored in the same time.

I tried the same. The URL ended up being something like:

Which is a bad code.

I tried using the website http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ which lets you create QR codes and it worked fine with the ones it generated.

This one should work... wonder where it leads....

Yeah, I got that beetagg page which redirected to Google, that's why I was asking :excl: I tried generating some QR codes on another site and QM was able to read it :excl: Nice codes :excl:

3shirts pegasus version of quickmark worked for me, all other versions were working but the camera was backward and inverted which made it hard to put the camera over the barcode in the first place--------- dunno if its worth mentioning but i installed .NET CF3.5 just before trying the pegasus version of quickmark in the link on 3shirts post above...........i´m not sure if this had any bearing on the fact that that version worked.

I have Omnia With HH1 english rom on spanish vodafone.......... scanner works a trreat, thanks 3shirts.

out of curiosity, what is the practical purpose of having the barcode reader on your phone? What kind of info are you getting from it. And what kind of bar codes does it read? only the square ones that are on like packages or any barcode even the ones on products?

Guest ardvarkofdoom

Well, Omega, there are many types of codes out there... not all code readers can read all barcodes. There are many purposes of codes, but they really aren't popular over here in the states yet. The square codes are generally used to provide links to websites/text information. This makes it easier to share information... Say you saw a barcode on a business card or a shop downtown. You scan it and it takes you directly to their website. I'm sure there are many more sues too. As for barcodes on products, there are alot more limited readers that will be able to read those and use them. Scanning product labels in theory could let you compare that same product to all stores in the area, but i don't forsee any data base to access that will have too much info available for just regular bar codes. Atleast not for a very very long time. And it will be limited as not all retailers have their info online or would let anyone access Onhand counts/price info in database form.

The QR codes aren't in huge use yet, but they're being pushed by some larger companies...they're one of those techs that might catch on or fall by the wayside, as what they do isn't really such a huge deal.

I found QuickMark to work fine, but only after turning autofocus off....for some reason, that made it far more efficient. Seems the Omnia is only supported up to 3.6.

Thanks so much for that! It works perfectly. Haven't come across a code yet thats unscannable. Too bad it wont scan a standard UPC as well.

Here's the coolest lookin QR code i've found so far:
