Travel battery/power pack for Omnia??

Hi all,

I'm sure everyone is aware of the excellent features of the Omnia and I have been enjoying mine so far. And as someone who travels lots, the Omnia is a great companion. The only problem is the battery power. I have always had one of those powerpacks which allows me to charge my devices on the go, but it can't seem to charge my Omnia. I have a Philips Power Pack SCE 4430 - it allows me to charge devices which have usb charge cables. I use the data cable to try to charge my Omnia but the Omnia is not recognising the powerpack as a charging point (the powerpack I have has a 5volt output - does the Omnia require a higher voltage?). I know I could buy an additional battery for it but again, the additional battery will not allow me to sustain my Omnia for say a 13hr flight and most trains have power plugs by seats which helps for long train journeys and not plane journeys.

Do you guys have any ideas of powerpacks that I could use for my travels which charges the Omnia and hopefully other devices?

Thanks!!

JJ

Omnias need some sort of a data connection to start charging... I know that there are connection cables (that charge as well) and charging (strictly) cables.

I am trying to find out what is the difference but I can find nothing.

For example I have got two car chargers, one is working perfectly, the other is not (both do send a current to the connector). Unfortunately I can't open the connector in the working one to compare them (it is sealed). :excl:

Hi all,

Thanks!!

JJ

You need to diy a new USB cable. Using the original 4 pin charge cable, you can make it by yourself.

Only two pins of the 4 pins are needed by the usb condaptor.

I use a retractable USB cable that works both as a data cable and as just a power cable.

I now have two of them (leave one at work).

I like retractable over a straight cable.

I then have a number of universal AC and Cigarette lighter connectors (in the car and elsewhere) that can be used with this cable without any issues. Work with other USB charge items as well.
