Guest illusion786 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 I was wondering this for sometime. Ever since i got my omnia ive read on so many respected review sites that the Omnia has 128Mb RAM, but in the Omnia memory settings it says it has only 98mb ? If it does have the 128 wheres the remaining Mb gone ?
Guest Solange82200 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 You are talking about the device memory, that isnt the RAM.
Guest Omega Ra Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 program memory is the RAM..storage is the device memory...
Guest illusion786 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) device memory is the ram RAM = Random Access Memory = Device Memory This is what your apps use just like a desktop pc would. Edit: Yeah in this case program memory Edited April 23, 2009 by illusion786

Guest Doc007 Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 You are talking about the device memory, that isnt the RAM. device memory is not RAM program memory is the RAM..storage is the device memory... program memory = RAM storage memory = device memory device memory is the ram RAM = Random Access Memory = Device Memory This is what your apps use just like a desktop pc would. Edit: Yeah in this case program memory Device memory = RAM = Program memory ------ RESULTS: Omega + Illusion => Storage memory = Device memory = Program memory = RAM Solange => Device memory is not RAM :excl: My VZW i910 has 97.11mb for Total Program memory and 92.11mb Total Storage memory. CONCLUSION: Verizon reports 128mb RAM on Omnia. Information provided by users are conflicting. Need someone to help clear this up. ...So what is the real explanation of this phenomenon?
Guest illusion786 Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 LOL @ Doc... How much ram does your omnia have ?
Guest D1mon Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) It physically has 128 mb of built-in RAM but around 30 mb of it is reserved for system purposes :D Edited April 26, 2009 by D1mon
Guest thescope Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Program Memory -> RAM Storage -> Disk Space or "C Drive" Why did MS called it so? for peeps who don't know what RAM is but they confused us who DO know what it is, LOL...
Guest Doc007 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 LOL @ Doc... How much ram does your omnia have ? No idea. My baby is on the way. Should be here sometime this week. I'll report back here when I find out. :D It physically has 128 mb of built-in RAM but around 30 mb of it is reserved for system purposes  Ok, that would make sense. It would be nice if WinMo reported the true total RAM value. Now let me ask you (or anyone else who can answer). By installing a cooked ROM which removes most of the unnecessary Verizon Omnia software, will we increase our available RAM (or in other words- reduce the amount of RAM (30mb) required for system purposes)?

Nope.
Guest Doc007 Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Too bad. There should make a way to increase RAM by using microSD cards. Similar to readyboost.
