Guest Tyson83 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 After performing the i910 ROM upgrade on 4/25 I've noticed within a 4 hr. time frame the phone shuts off and requires me to pull the battery before it will reboot OR even acknowledge the wall charger. GPS is working on Google Maps and Live Search; settings COM: 8, 57600. At first I thought the battery had been drained, but it's holds a steady charge. It's when I wake up in the morning that I find it's OFF and I have not adjusted the settings for it to shut down at all day or night.... Anyone else had this issue??
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Does the phone get hot in the back?
Guest Tyson83 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Does the phone get hot in the back? Thats the thing, the battery does heat up while on the USB/PC connection, but never shuts off... Sometimes it gets warm when I'm just using it for everyday things; text, email, calling, etc.... This is my 2nd Omnia this month, the 1st one was getting super hot and not holding a charge, so VZ sent me another phone (NO Battery or back cover) under warranty to "Trouble Shoot" whether it was the charging port or the battery, now it works fine.... When it stays on!! For example, I was glad to wake up to the phone still On, but on my way to work I pulled it out to check my Email and Surprise!!..... Nothing!! So I had to do another battery pull, plug it up to the car charger so it would turn on, and then unplug it to make sure it still had a charge, which it did..... That was 14 hrs. ago and it's still on, hasn't cut off again and still has plenty of juice. Would changing the ROM (Samsung) possibly cause the phone to heat up?
Guest Tim-H Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) Mine was doing this too but it wasnt every 4 hours it was ususally around the same time every day around 8:45am. And sometimes randomly during the day but not often. I found you can do a manual soft reset with the hole in the top instead of removing the battery, its a little more convenient but still shouldnt have to be done. I installed a custom rom, Blazingwolf's, and it has stopped turning off. It does require a reset every morning though or it will get really slow and unresponsive. Not an issue though I just do it when i wake up and im good for the day. Edit: I also want to add that I have never felt the battery get hot. Its the hardware that is below the battery that gets warm, but it didnt seem to make a difference as to when the phone would decide to shut off. Edited April 28, 2009 by Tim-H
Guest mckenph Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 OK I thought I was the only one having that issue. Dont think it is a battery issue. It happen to me three times today and one time yesterday.

Yea, weird thing is that a "Soft" Reset doesn't work.... I tried it few times before pulling the battery (I had a clear Hard Shell case on at the time and it's a pain in the A** to get off) On the positive side, I'm going on Day 2 w/ No Shut Off :D Also, I haven't noticed the back heating up since night before last..... I installed MemMaid and changed a few other settings, so maybe it'll work for short time... Or at least until another ROM comes out that peaks my interest..... haha If Anyone else has had this issue, please do share..... Any information helps....
Guest Tim-H Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Yeah, Check out one of the custom roms, you might like them. Made mine stop shutting off, and runs a lot smoother. But if not, at the very least we should get an official ROM update from Verizon next week?

I figure worse case scenario, I'll try a few of the ROM's and if my phone Burns up then I'll blame it on VZ's "Official Release", that is if it actually comes out next week.... Any idea on how many Flashes one phone can take?

Any idea on how many Flashes one phone can take? I'm not sure that there is, but the guys developing it flash over and over to get them running and smoothing them out. As long as its only a .bin flash if it doesnt work you can just reflash the Leaked ROM and try again.
Guest knotbeerdan Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 You know the funny thing is when i had live search installed it would not let my GPS work any more. It sucked cause i like LS but oh well. Maybe you have something set wierd and it makes the phone shut off. Have you hard reset since the flash? Might help

That's true but I do know some car computers put a limit on how many times you can flash them before they lock down or die. It probably isnt limited but there's still a chance, even if it is a large number. Edited April 29, 2009 by Tim-H
