Guest rick311 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 So I just bought my omnia this weekend and have a couple of days to play with it. There are a few things I like about it, but other things make me want to take it back. First off, I installed SPB3 and I like it more that the original Samsung interface. Hopefully someone could help me with these issues I have and I would want to keep using this phone: 1. ALARM: with SPB3 installed, I cant use the alarm in the settings, it just wont go off, onlt the SPB3 clock works. But that sucks because the tones play once and arent enough to really wake me up. <-- SUPER IMPORTANT!! 2. CONTACTS: They are displayed Last name, First name. I would LOVE to get it back to the other way around. Any fix for this besides going in and manually typing them myself? 3. 3G? how do I know if my phone is using 3G? or if 3G is even available where I am? 4. S2U2; great little option, but why does it say “no service” in the upper left hand corner? Any fix for that? It also locks right away after unlocking. What gives? 5. BLUETOOTH: why doesn’t it show a little Bluetooth I con in the corner to let me know if BT is on and if something is connected to it? S2U2 shows it, but once its unlocked, I cant tell. 6. TEXT REMINDERS: sometimes im walking and ill get a text, but I wont feel my phone vibrate. How can I tell my phone to vibrate every couple of minutes to let me know that I have one. I need reminders! 7. CALL LOGS: can I delete a contact from in there? 8. BATTERY METER: any way to get an ACTUAL reading of what the battery life is instead of doing increments of 20%? And how do I know when its fully charged? I plug it in and it tells me im at 100% already! 9. DISK SPACE: why is it that my friends with an iphone can install HUNDREDS of apps and dot run out of space. i install fingerkeyboard, spb mobile, s2u2, and personalizer and that seems to be all i can install becuase i have no more room. whats the deal there? I would appreciate some help here so I can maybe keep this phone. I will give whoever helps me a LEGIT serial number for SPB 3! i got a couple from Verizon, not a keygen or anything. Its easy to do, you should all do it too!
Guest Th3rmal Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 3. The fourth indicator in the task bar (1. ok/close 2. battery 3. little antenna thing 4. what im talking about) will show a 3G symbol. 4. I believe this is due to your service being locked (You with Verizon?) I think theres a fix for it somewhere here in the forum, just use the search function. 7. I dont think so, I never have anyway. 8. I dont think there is a fix, sorry  (although i could be wrong) 9. Install your new programs to "My Storage" not "Device". Device only have 50-100mb of room, but your internal storage will have at least 8gb, so use that to install your programs and apps. If you want more Device space, using a custom rom gets you this, however i wouldnt reccomend it until your more familiar with your phone and also roms and the flashing process, as there is a chance you might brick your phone if you flash it. Good luck! Its a great phone :D
Guest Tim-H Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Get G-Alarm seems like a lot of people have it, looks like it has some good options, like having to do stuff that requires a little thought to turn off the alarm. For your contacts, Winmo does that, you need to go into each contact and where it says display name select the way you want it to be displayed. If you are on Verizon It will say EV in the small box at the top if you are in 3g coverage, it will say 1X if you are not. You need to configure S2U2 to not automatically lock on you, take 10 minutes and go through the settings menu for it. There is no way to get it to read your network status as far as I know. Read the info on the official website about this. All your wireless connections Wireless, Data Call, Bluetooth are shown when you click on the EV/1X box at the top of the screen. No, there are no ways for you to set up a text messege reminder without a third party program. Do a search, I dont know I just check my phone every now and then. To delete a contact from the call log section, Though im not sure why you would want to. Tap the persons name in the in the list, tap their picture, or where their picture would be then hit the menu softkey and select delete Tap the battery, it will give you a detailed window on your battery power remaining. When you are done charging a notification will pop up and wont go away until you unplug the phone. Like he said above. Install to "My storage" when you install things. There is plenty of space in there.
Guest zoolie Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I got 5 alarm clocks (2 stationary, 1 old samsung phone I use as alarm clock, 1 ordinary phone... But only my omnia with g-alarm is the one one that surley makes me go up in the morning! manage math-quests to get the freaking alarm stop like 7 in the morning is kinda annoying)
Guest OzzyW Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) 1. I use M2D (works sooo good on omnia!) , tried SPB3 once, but didnt really like it, just install G-Alarm, you can use mp3s to wake you up :D and a lifesaving option is the mazes and calculations you have to do before you can snooz ...I am a deep sleeper myself (read: Coma ) and I have 5 alarms configured playing very loud and in your face punk/hardcore  ) 2. CI'm not sure here .. should be possible to change that around .. I only have first names in my phone so far  3. If you ARE connectond on 3G you'll see so in your taskbar on top. I have a provider wich doesn't support 3G, but other in my country do.. Check your providers services 4. S2U2; It means your in flightmode .. Check wireless manager ... If your screen locks directly after unlocking.. set the milliseconds to a higher level in the settings 5. Your PowerLED will flash blue when you turn on and of bluetooth .. maybe also when transferring (not sure tho .. never checked). However, install Omnia Favorite settings and its easy :( 6. I'm not sure if we can do this withouth 3rd party software, but again with S2U2 you can have previews and little icons to tell you you have msgs, missed calls etc .. Also your power led gives different color codes when an event is there (for instance missed call is a purple flashing powerLED :D 7. CALL LOGS: You can delete the logs them selves, or do you mean deleting a contact from phone book through your logs? Just delete them in phonebook :D (Watch out tho if yuo are connected to MSN and merge your MSN contacts ... What happened to me .. I was still online and deleted all the MSN contacts in phonebook after i decided I didnt want this :D ... Problem was that somehow I actually deleted them from my MSN profile! ) 8. When its fully charged .. your POwerLED is green 9. You are probably installing it to your main memory, .. Install it into 'My Storage' or your storage card if you have one. I would keep this as free as possible to ensure a fast omnia :D however some applications require to be installed there "I would appreciate some help here so I can maybe keep this phone. I will give whoever helps me a LEGIT serial number for SPB 3! i got a couple from Verizon, not a keygen or anything. Its easy to do, you should all do it too!" That's very kind of you :D But i use M2D (have you tried it?) Just happy to help :) Edited April 28, 2009 by OzzyW
Guest dercetojones Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 4. S2U2; great little option, but why does it say “no service” in the upper left hand corner? Any fix for that? It also locks right away after unlocking. What gives? I don't recall the exact reasons, but this has something to do with the carrier name being unrecognized by S2U2. There is a small program called "Personalizer", I think, that will allow you to change the name of your service carrier. I changed mine to "VZW" and S2U2 works. I'm pretty sure this is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359563
Guest rick311 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 you guys are awesome! i installed g-alarm and tested it for a sec . . . we'll see tomorrow morning if it really does work! i also did the personalizer last night and got it to say whatever i wanted it to in s2u2 and it even give me my signal bars. i might have to install manilla2d to see if i like that any better. im really considering taking this phone back in.

Its easy to do, you should all do it too! Maybe i can help with your decision. q1- can't really help. the built in alarm works fine for me. i used spb in my old mda pro, caused so much grief, vowed never to use again. q2- there's "phone book" and "contacts". p.b. is samsung's own version and Contacts is the standard m.s. version. i've never really ever noticed it. i don't think you can change it, nmot like in outlook. anyway, i just press the call button and then on the number pad type in the name "fred...." and all of the "fred" entries appear. q3-no idea, sorry. q4- never seen this (maybe because i'm using t-mobile). q5- b.t. ha ha ha..welcome to the lame world of omnia. there's not even a blue flashing light to say you're using b.t. q6- don;t think you can. in all of my years of using w.m. etc. never come across this feature, repeating text reminder. maybe spb has something or some other 3rd party. q7- don;t think you can but is it really necessary? q8- ha ha ha again, so silly. however i've noticed that when i plug in the usb cable (and becareful of which one you use) it does charge in increments. i forget now if the mains charger does it in "Lumps". oh and when it's plugged in to something mains/usb it'll rush up and say 75% for example, then you unplug it and it'll lose 25%...mystery but there answers ans theories to this on the internet (naturally on modaco as well). q9- when you install the app. use the other storage device. i forget what it's called now (long gone are the days when i installed and uninstalled an app. "Just for fun"). i installed everything to the other storage and all works fine, no lag etc. . personally, i've been using smartphones from the beginning, i was smitten by the first orange spv, maybe eight years ago. i've gone through most of the possible upgrades, with one thing to note all phones were HTC (or variants). overall pretty much happy, they got better and better. my penultimate telephone one was an mda III. best ever!! never broke down, never had to do a hard reset, ran tomtom like a dream. then my life changed when i switched, the HTC gods punnished me...you went over to the Samsung side. despite warnings from other friends and collegues "...but it's a samsung...good looks, funtionality but does it actually work??". were they right, as eggs are eggs, i am not impressed to say the least. the biggest gripe is charging the phone. if it goes completely dead, you can only charge from the mains charger! try charging it from dead using the usb cable. then, there's a few variants of the usb cable. some will only exchange data and not charge and infact DRAIN your phone. others will charge if there's a bit of juice left. then it has samsung's proprietry (?) usb cable, it's so new, that all of the 3rd party chargers are for the older phones. with my old htc's i never had any of these relatively simple issues. if i could choose again, i would NOT choose this phone. sorry mate, i'd send it back before it's too late. rammy.

Guest rick311 Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Don't say this phone is no good when the user himself has absolutely no idea what this phone is capable of..... 1. i NEVER said this phone was no good! 2. i am FULLY aware of what this phone is capable of. This phone is just not for me. if its something that you can use and you love it, more power to you. dont put words in my mouth or assume what i do or do not know, it makes you look like an ass.
