Guest scuba264 Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I hate XT9 and never wanted it to start. Sometimes I'd accidentally hit the "ABC" key and switch to it mid word and it would make me mad. I searched forever and finally found a registry hack to remove the reference to the stupid thing. It works on my Omnia Samsung Keyboard and I couldn't be happier. I can hit the "ABC" button but it doesn't switch to XT9. The first steps don't really apply, but just make the registry change and soft reset your phone. The post says that XT9 can affect the typing speed, but I honestly didn't notice any increase by disabling it. At least its finally gone! If you hate it like I do, try this out... Step 1: Go to "T9 Settings" and disable everything. Step 2: Switch Compact QWERTY/Full QWERTY/Phone Keypad to "ABC" mode. Step 3: Change the default input method (do not use Compact QWERTY or Phone Keypad or Full QWERTY). You can do this by using registry editing (e.g. using PocketTweak) or using 3rd party apps to "launch" selected SIP at boot time. (backup beforehand if you are using registry method; otherwise, it is safer to use one of the OS default SIPs like Letter Recogniser, Keyboard, etc, as default) Step 4: Edit the registry as per below (backup beforehand to be safe). Step 5: Soft reset and try it! Registry Path: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409 Ime File="windows\compime.dll" Layout Text="COMP IME" Original post here: http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=104270
Guest Tim-H Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Thank you! I f'ng hate xt9, I can type faster without it, even on the number pad.
Guest thescope Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 THX DOOD! I hate XT9 as well, i would like it just give me the option to auto complete like if i write in an email address it would complete it.. but not like XT9. Thanks
Guest scuba264 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 So I'm finding some slightly weird results from using this hack. XT9 never can start which is good and texting and messaging from within the phone works great. However I can't enter text into textboxes using Opera now. Like when I try to type into google search, nothing shows up. Everything does work fine using IE though. This is pretty annoying to me because I love Opera way more than IE and use it often. This hack DOES fix the problem with Google Maps though. I can now enter text into google maps using my samsung keyboard just fine. I don't know much about the dlls used for the keyboard or the registry keys here. I may have to look into these a little more seriously and see if theres a way to get everything working. I'd love to be able to enter in Google Maps correctly but still use my Opera. I'd consider going back and accidentally hitting XT9 for the sake of using Opera. Anyone else having this problem? Any fixes or ideas?
Guest scuba264 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) An afterthought: what were the original registry keys for these? If you haven't tried this yet, can you post them? Of course I didn't back up my registry before doing this and I can't remember what they were haha. I'm sure its out there, but if you know I'd really appreciate if you'd post here. Thanks. Edit>> Ime File is originally \windows\xt9ime.dll Layout Text is XT9 IME So just change them back to those values if you want to revert. I'm going to mess around a bit and see if theres anything I can do. Edited May 2, 2009 by scuba264
Guest rigor.m Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) Hmm typing with samsung keyboard in opera suddenly did not work so i tried to revert the changes... of course i did not back up but i tried : Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll Layout text : XT9 IME and it seems to be right, it enables xt9 and I can type in opera again... If anyone gets to the bottom of this I would like to know.. edit: great I posted just as scuba edited his post :D Edited May 2, 2009 by rigor.m

Any fixes or ideas?I noticed this phenomena just today. I was wondering if this particular hack was the cause but didn't find any info on samsung-omnia.org. Then I wandered off on a tangent and downloaded the Resco Keyboard trial. Back on topic, it never even ocured to me to try IE, I can't even think of someone that I know who still uses it. When my trial period with the Resco Keyboard elapses, I will likely simply revert back to the original registry entries as it sounds like you have/will; unless of course I can rationalize dropping the coin on the Resco between now and then. As it stands, I don't use G-Maps as often as I need to enter text into search fields in Opera. Maybe you'll get it all sorted out, in my eyes, it's still a good find! Edited May 3, 2009 by Wynnded
