Guest theidoctor.org Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Sorry to inform you guys, but i have officially converted out of Winmo to the BB Storm. I would have to say that as much fun as i had with my omnia, the storm suits my needs so much better. I love the instant email that doesnt drain my battery life, the screen resolution, and the 3.5 mm jack (because i still use those ancient wired headphones!). I will still stick around, but this is just something that needed to be done :D

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Be interesting to know your thoughts on your new toy :D
Guest theidoctor.org Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Be interesting to know your thoughts on your new toy :D well to be honest, the storm was the one i wanted before the omnia. smooth scrolling i actually like the clicking Screen resolution is a BIG + battery life is about 50% better with instant emails. App world is ok... hopefully it will keep on growing. Screen is bigger, but phone is heavier i love the media app... the music file system is similar to the ipod and its very finger friendly. --Doesnt have wifi, but the only time i used it on the omnia was with wmwifi router. I do miss being able to "hack" and pretty much make it do what i want, but still would not leave the storm lol. things i'll miss... the opera web browser is actually a ton better than BB's browser... i installed opera for the storm, but still trying to figure out how to use it... and i will be waiting for skyfire to come out for the storm. -------------------------------------------------------- besides that, im really glad to have played with both, but i will continue to stay with the storm
Guest jcortes Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Dont know what you see in the device its extremely slugish, not sure if they have fixed all the slugishness in the device with a firmware update but i highly doubt it. I had the thing for about a week and traded it in for my precious Omnia couldn't be happier that i did. Storms battery didnt last much longer than the Omnia from my experience either.
Guest rayden25 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 Congrats on coming out of the closet... oh wait... never mind. :D

Guest krelvinaz Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 I know 5 people who bought the Storm. Each one switched away from it after a short while. 3 moved to the HTC Touch Diamond 2 moved to the Omnia Wonder which you will switch to ??

Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 It`s just not right with Blackberry`s! Each and every model has something nice, but has a STUPID thing that spoils everything! How a phone for 400+ $ doesn`t have Wi-Fi?! (In Bulgaria we don`t have unlimited 3G etc... Wi-Fi is priority number 1 for me ) I don`t think I`m ever buying a Blackberry but congrads on the new phone :D

Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 Well, maybe it won`t have a camera or bluetooth :D
Guest theidoctor.org Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 Well, maybe it won`t have a camera or bluetooth :D  haha... yea. well, when verizon gets going on the LTE network, we shouldnt need wifi.... i actually think that the storm is the closest to beating the iphone.... and almost prefer the storm over it

Can I ask a couple of (probably obvious) questions? 1) Can you put applications on it? Have any links to app sites for it? 2) Can you "tether" it to a laptop etc for internet access? Cheers

Cheers 1) OF COURSE!!!!! there are a few ways... the main way is through BB's APP WORLD, which is similar to the iphone's app center or whatever it is... the other is by going to websites that you know make apps for Blackberrys like google maps and google whatever.... http://forums.crackberry.com/f134/ the first 2 threads are the main ones that are in app world, and all the others are from people who develop or are talking about other 3rd party apps. 2) i dont know of a 3rd party app that will let you tether it, but i think you can through verizon but they charge you monthly for that
Guest Rob V Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I also liked the Storm, and really debated it before going with the Omnia. One of the things that ultimately swayed me to the Omnia was the "Blackberry Email Tax": I depend heavily on email, so finally got fed up and bought my own domain (a whopping $8/year through 1&1), and now route all my domain email to a hosted MS Exchange service (only $9/month with Sherweb, including 3 gig mailbox, free SharePoint account, etc.) Works perfectly - I can keep every received and sent email virtually forever, and no more worries about data loss. When I upgraded to the Omnia, it took 2 minutes to set up my Exchange account -- and within 5 more minutes, ActiveSync had restored every single email, contact, task, and calendar entry onto my new Omnia. Email nirvana! The problem with the Storm (or any BB) is that the only way to sync with an Exchange server is via Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES), which must be installed by the Exchange provider. That's not a problem for corporate Exchange users if their company is willing to install and pay for BES. But although most hosted Exchange providers offer BES, it's always an option that adds $10/month to your costs -- and most also charge a one-time setup fee as well ($40 or so). As I'm told, those additional costs cover the fees they have to pay to RIM for per-user BES licenses. So it comes down to a WM device, plus $9/month for Exchange email -- or a BB device, plus $19/month for the same Exchange services. Frankly, the Storm just wouldn't be worth an extra $120/year to me. It's funny - you're always hearing about the "Apple Tax"... but ironically, if the iPhone ever makes it to VZW it's a viable option because its built-in ActiveSync natively synchs with Exchange at no extra charge, just like a WM device. So in the email world, the "Blackberry Tax" becomes a bigger (and ongoing!) issue.
