Edited May 3, 2009 by djsolidsnake86
Guest dwallersv Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Disabling these processes will not make your Omnia run faster. The threads for all those processes are asleep most of the time, and only wake up and do anything when there is a reason for them to. If you get a decent task manager and take a look at the CPU usage of running processes, you'll see that all the CPU is being taken up by the Idle thread and the Task Manager process (naturally -- it's the only thing doing anything when your watching!). With FDC Task Manager (my favorite), about 85% CPU is idle, 13% the Task Manager, and the other 2% random stuff from everything else that hops around from process to process. Turning off these processes will decrease startup time after a reboot, and decrease the amount of RAM in use. If either of these are issues for you, then it is worthwhile messing with these. Otherwise, don't worry about it. As for the list, if you aren't using the Large Display for the Start Menu (I don't -- there are advantages... no delay when hitting the start menu, and more items displayed, but that's a personal choice), you can turn off LargeDisplayStart.
Guest djsolidsnake86 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 ok i will turn off largedisplay, i don't use it any others?
Guest thenameless Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I don't have most of those, but I have deleted all of them and had no ill-effects. That's on an i910 though. A lot of custom roms delete all of them too. Regardless of what he said, I think it does make the Omnia a bit quicker by freeing up some RAM. May not be much, and it may be placebo effect, I don't know. What I would do it cut-and-paste them to a safe folder one by one and restart that way you know if you have a problem which one caused it.

It's better to leave them alone because as dwallersv said... they don't slow your phone down to the point that you should remove them.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I nuked some, but not all by choice. Some break when cooking. Still not sure what delete_ro does. In the case of the CC20 rom for i910--faster boot is bad in the sense that wifi stops working correctly.
