Hello dear little omnia people!

I've got a question about the camera, i've already asked around on samsung-omnia.org but no one seems to know there, but you guys might have the answer!

Is it somehow possible by help of tweaking in registry or some other way change the way camera saves photos? Because let's face it, JPG sucks... Really, i've had several digital cameras AND NO ONE HAVE EVER SAVED IN JPG!

So is there anyway to make it save the photos as .bmp? It would increase the quality and make it way easier to modify the pictures in like photoshop.

You're kidding, right?

First, virtually all (especially point-and-shoot) digital cameras save in JPEG format, or at least allow the option. This is because JPEG allows for very good compression (smaller file sizes) and very quick reading/writing. To prove my point, I went to Canon and clicked on their most expensive Elph camera, and it saves in JPEG: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...delTechSpecsAct

Second, uncompressed bitmaps take up incredible amounts of space compared to compressed JPEGs. Saving as a bitmap won't necessarily increase quality (it depends on the level and quality of compression chosen for the JPEG), but it'll make the file sizes HUGE. This is a real problem when writing to flash memory, as writing 3MB takes a lot longer than 100KB does, not to mention how much extra space you have to have laying around. Do you really want to send huge bitmap files as picture messages?

Third, changing the file format is much more intensive than editing the registry, it would require modifying the camera application.

Fourth, changing the format won't do anything to help modifying them in Photoshop.

If you want better photos, you need a better camera.

The JPEG format Omnia has is probably 10918-1

I wouldn't whine if it was jpeg xr ISO/IEC 29199-2 that supports up to 32 depth.

And photoshoping Jpeg files are way more difficult than bmp (that's why I'd like an uncompressed format) because you lose information by each layer you modify. And the color depth sucks on ordinary jpeg :/

And ofcourse you can get supergood pictures with jpeg mate, but then you need a good camera. The samsung camera is good, but not that good... That's why an uncompressed picture would make it easier to remake the pics you want to good results.

There are nothing worse than working with Jpeg + Photoshop... The limits are, limited.

Almost every Digi-Camera i saw used to save the Pics in JPEG.

Just read the answer from Echo4C... Casio, Canon, Sony... Everyone is using JPEG.

WHAT?

DOUBLE WHAT?

Enjoy your full internal-memory after taking ~30 Pictures in BMP.

Youre totally wrong with your Thread.
