Guest Twoflower Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Hello there! I have an Omnia i900 and ive wanted to upgrade it for quite some time. But since I live in Sweden, I cant get any official roms. Tried to call samsungs support here but they refused to help me. So Ive looked here at modaco and ive seen alot of custom roms. I have these: PDA :i900XBHJ2/CSHJ1 Phone :i900XBHI3 Ive got some questions regarding how and what to upgrade 1. Ive read in alot of custom rom threads that they recommend upgrading to the latest official rom before flashing. But I cant do that? So should I try to do it anyway? 2. With all these custom roms out there, which one to chose? (minor problem)

Ive read in alot of custom rom threads that they recommend upgrading to the latest official rom before flashing. But I cant do that? So should I try to do it anyway? 2. With all these custom roms out there, which one to chose? (minor problem) I took the plunge last weekend (succesfully - sigh of relief -). Although some custom roms are based on recent stock versions I decided to go with the latest official Samsung rom. You can download it here: http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp. I selected Singapore and got DZIA5 which is one of the latest if not the latest English Samsung rom. The process is straightforward, took me about 15 minutes, without the backing up and reinstalling all my apps of course. I didn't use backup software to ensure I got a totally clean reinstall. So far I'm happy, my Omnia seems to be much more stable.
Guest jason07 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 I've flashed mine about 5 or 6 times, the 1st being with a custom ROM (Qbus I think...). I didn't flash with the latest official before hand, and it all went well. I actually went to get the latest official after my first custom, and it said I was already on the most up to date ROM. I'm now on sectors 3-in-1, and it works great. (I'm not guaranteeing that it will work for you, just saying that for ME, I didnt need to go for the official ROM first). Good luck
Guest Th3rmal Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Honestly its not that scary :D Although I was scared too when I was going to do it for the first time. But now I flash like 2+ times a week. Yesterday I flashed twice within the hour :D. 1. I never updated to the latest firmware before flashing to custom, and it worked  I never did a hard reset either (except for the first time). This is what I do: - backup contacts/text/appointments using PIMBackup - Turn phone off - Start the rom update - Connect phone to computer - Turn phone on - Press start and wait like 3 minutes for it to be finished. Real straight forward  2. All depends on what you want. There's lots of combos: e.g. 6.1 - Stock (Normal samsung ones) Lite (Qbus's rom, ive tried it and it works really well, real stable and fast) Optimized (stock apps, just somethings optimized, such as Taril's roms) M2D (Qbus again because ive tried it and im happy with it) 6.5 - Lite (Khuanchai - tried it and it worked relatively well, although it wasnt what i wanted in a rom) M2D (Khuanchai - same as above) Optimized/Lite (most apps gone, but works really well. Try sectors roms, its the one im using now and i love it) SPB3 (sector again, I havent used this but seeming as its sectors it should work well) Hope this helps :(
