The problem I have is regarding my backlight- which turns on and off randomly when in sleep mode.

I find that this occurs mainly when I am in Wifi mode or in an area with bad cellular reception.

Anyone know how to fix this? I tried searching the forum for a related topic without any luck.

Disable Wifi's power saving mode (under battery settings wifi tab) to solve the wifi issue.

The phone will always turn on at midnight (i don't know why i guess it's doing a check of something).

I can't help youu about reception because my phone doesn't do that.

really that the fone turn on at midnight????WTF??? does it have a mind of its own...never really noticed that.. LOL....will check this out today...

i believe that the turning on and off randomly is due to the fact that the gsm towers send sort of a wake up packet to keep the fone on reception to the network.

bpjvk- I disabled the wifi power saving mode when I first received the phone to maintain my wifi connection when I have bad celluar service.

kav- I think you might be correct. Although I have the CDMA version of the Omnia (i910), I think I we also get "wake-up" packets.

Anyway, I still have the problem of the backlight turning on and off randomly. Is there a program I can run or a registry edit I can do to disable the backlighting during notifications such as wifi and cell signal?

I think this is playing a negative role on my battery life. :D

I had this happen when I used s2u2 and figured it was just that program. Is it happening when you have s2u2 on or not? My girlfriend were very annoyed by this when we were trying to sleep.

Haha I know the feeling. I don't have S2U2 though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any help is extremely appreciated. This is driving me crazy!!

I don't know why it turns on randomly but i can assure you that my I900 doesn't so i don't think that it's because it's sending some packets. It's something else. And the turning on feature that i described will happen at 23:59 you'll see.

Ok guys, Ive tried to localized the problem by doing some trail and error with the wifi on/off. I am 100% sure that the backlight randomly turns on and off when the Wifi is ON.

I am not 100% sure if this also occurs when the cell goes in and out of cellular service.

BUT I know having the Wifi ON is causing this problem. What can I do to make the wifi behave with my backlight when I put my phone to sleep?

It's so funny that it turns on at midnight. The first few times I thought I had a call coming or a message/email.

But now I know exactly when the clock strikes midnight.

if it doesnt have to do with network packets as u are saying then the most probable reason for this would be the updating of the clock suffs, due to the specific time it happens, like changing the date, the day, etc... like to display a new day, it has to wake the device and make those changes??!!

anyway, i dont think it is an actual issue,, just turn the fone upsidedown when u go to bed and u wont even notice this wake up thing, or just do like me, put it in a leather case and u dont notice any suprise lighting up at night. :D

Yeh that is a temporary solution, however its still a problem when it starts eating up your battery.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Its definitely related to the wifi being on.

it doesnt eat up ur battery so much if it lights up for a few seconds and off again.....

it doesnt sound like it would eat up much battery, but having this occur throughout the day for 5-6 hours adds up. Not only is it a battery issue but its also distracting by making you think you have a notification when you dont.

totally agree with u abt the disturbance, but abt this issue happening 5-6 hours a day?? i was just talking abt when it lights up at 23:59.

if it happens so much then there is definitely something wrong with ur omnia, i have no such issue and i checked my omnia and it doesnt wake up at 23:59, i dont have such an issue with fone.

u mentioned earlier that it happens when u are in a bad reception area, probably its due to the fact that it goes in and out on the network of ur operator ( no service and jumps back in the network again...)

Yeh this problem is related to G-alarm where the phone lights up for ~120 secs at midnight. Without G alarm some might experience this for 15 seconds. This is related to the phone rebuilding the notifications.

The midnight issue is an interesting topic but its not the reason why I started the thread. We might be getting a little off topic. :D

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main reason why I wrote this thread is to find a solution for the backlight on my phone when it is in wifi mode.

During wifi mode the phone will constantly light up after i put it to sleep.

This is specifically related to the wifi as I have tested this with good cell service and data connection.

I have also been able to reproduce the problem by turning the data connection and cellular connection off and then turning on the wifi. This again results in the backlight turning on and off after I put the phone to sleep (pressing power button once).

I was hoping that I could resolve the problem by doing several soft resets. Still no luck!

Also just to make sure you guys know I am on the Omnia i910 with the original rom.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Umm i just remembered something...

You you by any chance use any file dowloading programs like torrent or anything similar on your phone when you put it in standby. Because my phone gets turned on if i use a torrent program so that could be the cause.

Nope i havent used any file downloading programs. It will still wake-up out of standby even after I kill all the processes using task manager with the wifi-on.
