Hey,

so, hearing of the new OMNIA HD, I was getting excited. Having been dissapointed before though, I took a "chill pill".

What exactly does the HD do better than the Omnia, apart from the obvious screen improvement, touchscreen improvement (capacitative), and the 3.5mm headphone jack?

I mean, for the average Joe. Weaker processor, "Symbian", larger, heavier? I mean, unless you're *really* p.o.'d at the touchscreen, what else warrants a new 500$ expense? Any insight? Thanks =)

i don;t know much about the HD but from you've just said, if you own an omnia i900, you'd appreciate a better screen (see my other long winded posts), 3.5mm jack plug and well touch screen, so far none are really spot on.

Answer is easy: no windows mobile, no deal... For me Omnia is still perfect, would only trade it for something similar (windows mobile and about same size) with better screen resolution and-or faster processor...

Agreed. Why on earth would you trade WinMo for symbian??!! Seriously - get a bluetooth headset (3.5mm problem solved), replace your touch screen if it's really THAT terrible (mine works fine... multi-touch; not THAT big an improvement. If the screen reacts to touch, it's doing it's job), and as for screen res - more and more apps are coming out (which you won't get on symbian) that are compatible with the Omnias WQVGA. Why would you "up"grade?

+1! I don`t care if it can cook :D If it`s on Symbian I`ll never even think about it... BUT if there is a WinMo release - I think I`ll go for it

if the i8910 had win mo it it it would be the best device for the moment, but.. :D

its not even called an omniaHD now, its called i8910 like u mentioned.

samsung decided they will call all their win mo devices omnias, and the symbian ones will be named after numbers like ixxxx

but IMHO it might not take that long before we can expect a new omnia from samsung with similar or better capabilities than the i8910 and running win mo!

The only feature put i8910 way above other phones is capability to encode (record) video in HD resolution 720p (not fulllHD 1080p).

I know people will say who needs HD video? We dont even have HD LCD tv at home or how long it will take to upload to youtubeHD? bla bla. But that's what sceptics said about having camera in a phone 7 years ago.

Anyway i always believe samsung is ahead of anyone else in features department even Nokia or HTC cant keep up their pace. Samsung even bother to release android phone without considering android marketshares.

The rumoured Omnia Pro with sliding keyboard will definitely be announced soon. What Next OmniaHD Pro?

windows nobile =no capacitive suppport, 65000 colors

symbian =capacitive support, 16million colors

and more user friendly for medium user than windows mobile

good choise symbian :D

i would disagree with u on the matter of samsung being more advanced than HTC, i dont own a HTC but these devices are known to be one of the best, if not the best company making win mo devices. they are the pioneers of win mo devices. in HTC devices u have hardware graphic accelerators, but not in samsung, maybe in the new i8910 but they came a bit late with that. besides HTC devices are and were made for serious people, and it is only now that smasung is tapping into this field.

second thing is that u say people dont have a hd lcd tv at home, i read in a statistics report that in europe, almost 85% of homes have an LCD tv and 35-40% have a full HD lcd tv already and it is dramatically increasing. actually it is not so easy to find non-flat screen nowadays, most of them selling are either lcd or plasma, and now the LED tvs are already invading the market and very soon enough it will be OLED tvs.

like u said, the next device woud most probably be and omnia HD Pro... samsung is trying to take a big share of the winmo devices market from HTC by providing more toys in their devices than HTC, but they actually dont make the devices the best... would it hurt them to have put a 3D hardware graphics accelerator in the i900, this thing is been out in the HTC devices for some time now.

but i dont really care, because as long as they keep competing, we customers always get the good part out of it . :D

....

What he says.

I have a 46inch in the living room, 37 inch in the bedroom, 24inch for the 'puter and a 21inch in the conservatory. I can't think of one friend who doesn't have at least 1 lcd ... oh and I have a 720p LCD projector. As for uploading HD video, it doesn't take long if you have hsUpa and worse case, you video something, take it home and upload from there!

And again Kav is correct. HTC are the single pioneers in the WinMo market. Without HTC (and it pains me to say this), WinMo devices would be far behind many phones and we'd all be looking at the Iphone in envy! Sadly, whilst HTC spec great phones and make them look good, the manufacturing and support sucks donkey balls - having owned 3 I can say this with some experience.

I REALLY like my Omnia which is nearly perfect for me and I would kill for an Omnia HD running WinMob (and a slide out keyboard  )

Hope Samsung hurry up and release the Omnias replacement ... my contracts up already and I'm already swaying towards a TouchPro2 :D

Fenomeno, I had 3 N Series in the past and the only bad thing I've found what that in some cases the menues were so slow, but for sure Symbian is A LOT MORE USER FRIENDLY than WinMo.

I don't really care about you'll have 1110000000 apps for Winmo, because after 3 months of having the phone, you will just play 2 games, use the Garmin XT, take a lot of pic and videos and this "special" apps will remain there using storage FOR NOTHING!

So, for me...Omnia should have 3D Accelerator, more sensitive touch screen and keypad. With this, I can say it would be a perfect phone.

N95/96 has better video recording capabilities, but photo camera is better in the Omnia.

Of course, this is MY opinion only. Don't get angry with me.

Dude , when i said "I know people will say who needs HD video? We dont even have HD LCD tv at home or how long it will take to upload to youtubeHD? bla bla. But that's what sceptics said about having camera in a phone 7 years ago."

Did you actually get what i meant?

Since i dont see anyone mentioned about 720p as the ultimate feature (read: where it gets the name HD)then my guess will be, this feature is not important due to a frequent posts in the forum that members dont have unlimited data plan, off their 3G just to have longer battery life and not to mentioned even ever to use video call.

Kav, having graphic accelerator alone doesnt mean HTC phone is more advanced. And just because Omnia cant display TouchFlo3D, doesnt mean that graphic and video are poor! Infact it is way better than any HTC phones

have you seen this graphic test on Diamond, and touch pro? http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1806

Anyway back to topic, Since G800, Samsung already superceeded Nokia in similar class phone , then G810, Innov8, pixon, omnia, Omnia HD, Nokia cant even catch up on that (technology-wise).

And now Samsung is #2 in worldwide mobile marketshare

TouchFlo3D does work on omnia by simply adding opengl driver to /windows directory. But it is vga so it shows only quarter od screen(top left) and it does like 3fps

...(which you won't get on symbian)...

Just that you know - the number of symbian 3rd party apps is HUGE.

And there are symbian apps that have no winmo counterpart, true also the other way round.

I use both and each has its strengths (and weaknesses). ROM cooking is one, but a symbian os just works and doesnt need much tinkering.

To each his own but please keep bashing out of the discussion.

Thanks

samsung is #2 in mobile market place,--mobile fones,, not smartfones!!! mind u, there is a world of difference in that!, and HTC is known by all win mo users as the best in the field!

HTC is definitely more advanced, not in terms of touchflo,, but as an overall.

i am not taking any parts, but just pointing out facts!

u should probably do ur homework before u boast abt something...

Thank you so much colleague!

So...let's add 3d acc to Omnia, HD, better sound to video and keypad! IF not....N97 will make explosions once out on the shops!

n95 is an old symbian. omnia hd has a new symbian very fast and touchscreen adapted, and an hardware too much good (the best for multimedia):

has a new omap 3430 processor (600 mhz with an architecture 3 times faster that arm on n95) + a processor for video encoding/decoding 720p.

omnia hd interface is very very user friendly (every button is BIG).

touchwiz in omnia hd is very nice, in omnia wm is horrible (beter use alternative as manila 2d)

AMOLED SCREEN AND WATCHING VIDEOS(SUPPORTS HIGH RESOLUTION AND ALSO VERY HIGH BITRATE) IS FABOLUOS.

GPS is perfect!

CAPACITIVE SCREEN LIKE IPHONE (NOT POSSIBILE IN WINDOWS MOBILE)

also if some user don't like symbian, this phone is the best in this moment

every type of appliction exists for symbian,no problem

Heres how it breaks down for me

Omnia HD:

16M color OLED touchscreen, 640 x 360 pixels: *DROOL*

Proximity Sensor??: meh idk might be useful

Digital Compass: DO WANT

slightly better battery and camera: Meh

standard 3.5mm audio: nice but I've come to not mind my current omnia's solution

NO OPTICAL MOUSE: WTF???

what slower processor?? why??

this would almost be tempting if:

I was an android or winmo phone, and they gave me back my optical mouse.

I didn't already have an omnia, that I love and have only had since December.

It was available on Verizon.

Omnia HD:

NO OPTICAL MOUSE: WTF??? = no necessary in a big screen with capacitive touch

what slower processor?? why?? = omnia hd processor architecture create the faster processor. in OMnia there is a very good intel processor, omap 3430 of omnia hd is better. omnia hd should have also a dedicated processor for econdignd/decoding 720p at very high bitrates. but in both phone(omnia and omnia hd) processor is very good (not as qualccom)

I have mixed feelings on the capacitive touch but then again that opens another door for an android version....

Guest Master_Axe

Eh, i like the resistive one I have now. A little more pressure usually makes it work, and if precision work needs be, a nail or pen will do the trick, whereas a capacitive screen would depend on a finger, which rules out any real precision work ^^.

Guest Root-dir

yeah thats why I'm pro finger mouse regardless of the type of screen
