Guest justpratik Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Hello Guys. We are all pretty much confused that. Whether We will shift to Official update on Windows Mobile 6.5 or not. so what u think? will samsung give us Windows mobile 6.5 upgrade?
Guest Th3rmal Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 No I doubt they will. But it doesnt matter too much because of the great cooks and support group we have here, well have custom editions of the official 6.5 rom in (hopefully) no time. And plus, Custom ROMs > Original ROMs :D
Guest ardvarkofdoom Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 No I doubt they will. But it doesnt matter too much because of the great cooks and support group we have here, well have custom editions of the official 6.5 rom in (hopefully) no time. And plus, Custom ROMs > Original ROMs  Yes... but cooked roms based on final roms probably > cooked roms based on beta roms :D
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 No, there will definately NOT be an update - the omnia is too old :D
Guest Paul Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I'm afraid i'm in the 'no they won't' camp (altho never say never, they might surprise us)... there's certain to be great cooked ROMs tho! :D P
Guest lonely2k5 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 i'm also at the NO side i think as soon WM 6.5 officiali is out no new wm6.1 rom for omnia will come out but hey there will be plenty of wm6.5 deviced officiali from where we will get our 6.5 roms my predictions: -next year we will have OMNIA WM7.0 and WM7.1 -on *bay you would be able to buy touchscreen for omnia for about 20€ with multitouch to support WM7 WE ALL HAVE TO WISH FOR IT !!!
Guest bpivk Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I'm afraid i'm in the 'no they won't' camp (altho never say never, they might surprise us)... there's certain to be great cooked ROMs tho! :D P I'm with Paul on this one. They won't publish a new rom because that costs extra licences which are much better spent on a new phone. But we do have excelent cooks so they'll cook a rom. Plus beta roms and official roms don't make much difference. At least nothink that i would notice.
Guest stylus1828 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) How about the official launch of wm 6.5? Today is may 11 and there are no news! Edited May 11, 2009 by stylus1828
Guest rappetor Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 No, they postponed the official release. First there was news today was the day, later MS said it's not. Anyway, I hope Samsung is going to surprise us and shows what good service is about. Especially when you look at the huge success the Omnia is for Samsung. So what do I think (as in, my experience with smartphones in the past): no. But so far Samsung has been quite nice with rom updates and support. And looking at the success of the current Omnia and they don't have a real sucessor yet, they might just release a WM 6.5 upgrade. It might be their best bet yet. The hardware in the Omnia is still very good. If they release a WM 6.5 version of the Omnia it could increase sales again on the Omnia.
Guest condorx Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) How about the official launch of wm 6.5? Today is may 11 and there are no news! not sure will be presented today but... it's 2pm in L.A.! No, they postponed the official release. First there was news today was the day, later MS said it's not. Not completely true, many sources still give today premiere for granted Edited May 11, 2009 by condorx

Guest bornl33t Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I'm in the who knows camp. I had the i760 from samsung and was surprised to see they released a 6.1 rom for it even though it was hardly popular and really didn't need it. On the other hand times have changed and IF a new iphone is released in June or whatever month they say it's coming out Samsung might be directing all it's resources to the next great phone and that includes the dev department...if that makes sense. Either way I LOVE my Omnia and am content with what I have for the next 2 years!
Guest Dblocker Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I'm very happy with my Verizon Omnia as well - currently running WM6.5 and loving the Titanium panels interface and GPS unlocked! I'm in no hurry for a new phone (will probably wait until a WM7 phone gets released someday).
Guest justpratik Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I'm afraid i'm in the 'no they won't' camp (altho never say never, they might surprise us)... there's certain to be great cooked ROMs tho! :D P yes sir. you are right chances are 50% 50% but i have checked the blog of windows mobile. and they appearently saying that Samsung,HTC both are making api that can be ported to any 6.x 7.x . and which would be directly built into os. means no such kind special mfg rom. will be there in the new win mo os. so i think chances are more then lesser.
Guest chokia Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 HTC Himalaya still gets WM6.5, but then it is not from HTC but cooked by the cook. Why would HTC care to release WM6.5 upgrade to all its PDA, when this will affect Diamond 2 and TP 2 sales? I think same goes to samsung, they are releasing Omnia Pro with WM6.5 and hope people with old omnia will ditch the phone and buy the new Omnia Pro. So no point of releasing the upgrade and let us all keep our omnia. But we are lucky the OS is from Microsoft and not samsung. So user still can cook and upgrade (DIY). This is what Nokia has done to their very own Symbian s60. It is not upgradable and un cookable. They want people to buy new phone with new version of symbian. (no wonder more than 1 million people buy their phone everyday and no wonder Symbian Foundation OS still no where to be seen)
Guest lushomnia Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I supposed Samsung will use the official wm6.5 for the Omnia HD? Well that is my feel. For current Omnia users, let's just enjoy the good cooked and custom rom.
Guest jonboyuk Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) That may prove difficult lushomnia, since the Omnia HD runs on Symbian not WM! Either way it makes no difference to us with the torrent of 6.5 roms already out there, no doubt we'll all end up with a cooked final release. The cooked ones are always superior to the official roms anyway IMHO. Edited May 12, 2009 by jonboyuk
Guest psionandy Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 yes sir. you are right chances are 50% 50% you mean either they will or they wont :D Why would HTC care to release WM6.5 upgrade to all its PDA, when this will affect Diamond 2 and TP 2 sales? I think same goes to samsung, they are releasing Omnia Pro with WM6.5 and hope people with old omnia will ditch the phone and buy the new Omnia Pro. Its not the lack of sales for new models that would be the problem.... the larger cost is supporting older handsets that weren't designed with wm6.5 in mind. And warrenty, testing, network verification/approval, legal liabilities, possible new certifications across a large range of older handsets will get expensive very quickly. So it would be a lot of expensive work for absoulutely no income whatsoever. rom cookers don't have any of these overheads whatsoever, and they pass the risk/liabilites on to the end users, which is why they are able to do what the big mighty companies can't
Guest Persia Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 hope no! i sent an email to samsung too about omnia "HD" games: Hello Samsung Mobile,i have a question that maybe for many people too,i have a samsung omnia i900 and really like it,my question is the samsung mobile has any project for omnia high quality games like apple's iphone in the future? well we know many big companies like Gameloft and E.A. is making High Quality and HD games for iphone but for poor omnia just few HD games (official i900 version). please can you order them to create omnia i900 games or possible? we need your support yes we bought your phone and believe into samsung i love samsung mobile  please reply me,i need your answer Thank You and Regards also for gameloft too :D

Guest smilegod Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) Dont think they will give us an wm 6.5 Because i heard somethere that wm 6.5 needs special hardware Edited May 12, 2009 by smilegod
Guest smilegod Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 The title said 6.5, not 7. Yeah sorry :D
Guest amahfouz Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 i guess samsung will probably give us a 6.5 one, the omnia hd uses a symbian OS, what that means by the end of the year if you want a wm phone samsung wont be an option unless it actually does provide 6.5 for omnia users, am i making any sense? :D
