Guest scuba264 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Someone please help me! Heres what I want to do: I have a gmail account, and I want my phone to check every hour for unread messages and show them in my phone. I'd like to be able to delete the messages from my phone when I'm done, but leave them basically unchanged on the gmail server (they can still be "unread"...I'd actually prefer that.) For this to happen, I'd really want to use a pop3 connection, right? That just makes a copy and puts it on my phone? The problem is, when I create an account in the email client in WinMo, it asks for the email address and seems to automatically know gmail.com and does the settings. So even when I go back to edit the details, theres a dropdown for "Account type" but it is disabled and is IMAP4. I can change the mail server, but I can't change the type. When I delete messages on the phone, they are deleted(or rather labeled as "deleted items" in gmail). I like to get the emails on my phone, but I don't consider them really read or handled until I've sat down at the computer and addressed them. How can I fix this? Also, if I go into my gmail settings, I can disable IMAP and keep POP3 enabled. But when I set up my account on the phone, the stupid thing is actually BEING ENABLED! Shouldn't that be a big no no to allow my client to change that setting like that? I guess its got the password and login, but whats the point of the setting if it can be changed by a client like that anyway??? Help!

Help! instead of your email enter something like g@g and hit next, there will then be a button that says try to get settings from the internet, unclick that and then fill in the information it asks for selecting pop account when it comes to that section...enjoy, let us know how it worked.

Ensure its as follows: 2. When messages are accessed with POP <Keep Google mails copy in the inbox> On your win mobile client input a fake email (dont put gmail.com at the end). Then manually configure the mail account. incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com and outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com Once saved, go back and change the email address to your correct gmail account. This should work.
Guest scuba264 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Yes! That worked perfectly. I actually just came across a post somewhere else that said something to that effect. I put my email address with @g.com and it came up with a checkbox saying "Check the internet to find the correct settings" or something like that. I unchecked the box and manually put in the servers for pop3 and selected pop3 as the type. After setting it all up I was able to go back and edit my email address to the correct @gmail.com. I just read an email and deleted from my phone and it is till unread in my gmail client on the pc. Exactly what I wanted to do. Thanks for the replies. How lame that you have to hack it like that. WTF.
