Guest dwallersv Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) UPDATE 5/14/09: How could I have overlooked this? :D Reviewing the devices page in FDC Task Manager I noticed that the SRS WOW driver appears for two devices -- WAV1 and WAV8. This may explain why I was still getting occasional hangs. The WAV8 device is for A2DP bluetooth audio; WAV1 covers regular generic WAV (speaker and wired headphones) output. Now, here's the interesting thing: Was going fine this morning, no crashes, listening to media over my BT A2DP headset. Survived many suspends with no problem. Then headset started indicating low battery, so I turned it off and switched to the internal speaker(was listening to some talk). This worked fine, until I quit the application, and then suspended. VOILA! crash, unresponsive, had to reboot. Seems awefully coincidental that everything was fine while using BT -- the WAV8 device -- and then on the first use of the speaker (WAV1) we crash again. So, add a "wav1"=dword:4 to the registry key below. I'm testing that right now, and need others to test it too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm posting a new thread on this because I'm guessing a lot of people that like this enhancement but have abandoned it probably aren't keeping up with the old thread. I've posted a detailed explanation of where/what/how regarding this fix over in that thread. Go to this post if you want the gory details. In short, add the name/value pair below to the following registry key, soft reset, and see if this solves the crash/freeze problem for you. It seems to have fixed it for me, at least with testing this afternoon for about 3 hours, with no problems. Without this change, I can hang the device within a few minutes by suspending it. [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend] "wav8:"=dword:00000004 If someone would CAB this up and post it here, I'm sure that would be much appreciated. I'm on the upslope of the learning curve as of today to learn how to make cabfiles. IMPORTANT: This does not completely "fix" the WOW enhancement; it does seem to fix the hang/freeze problem (the big enchilada), but there are some minor annoyances that still need to be accounted for:After any soft-reset (reboot), you must open the WOW SRS control panel, re-set the output to internal or headphones (it will always be blank after a reboot), and (optionally) re-set the input and output gain values on the TrueBass page (they always reset to -6db and -2db respectively after a reboot). Then close the panel. Failure to do this will result in a crashed Omnia on the first suspend (every time, for me).Bluetooth stereo A2DP connection is a bit flaky. Wireless headset will connect just fine after a reboot, and display the little stereo BT icon in the titlebar. It will also work marvelously with SRS WOW. However, if you disconnect your headset (like, turn it off), the icon will not disappear like it should; the phone will, though, show the right thing in the BT cpl (i.e. disconnected).Sometimes I can't get A2DP to reconnect for BT stereo listening, after I've connected and used it, then disconnected. Don't know why. Soft-reset fixes this. The main thing I want to emphasize is that I've had no more crashes. The inconvenience with using SRS WOW now has reduced to sometimes having to soft reset to get my BT A2DP headset to connect, which to me is more than minor enough to keep SRS installed and use it. You have to decide for yourself. Of course, if you're using a wired headset, this isn't a problem. Those other issues look promising to be resolved as well. Back in that other thread, vbox posted a modified SRS cab with some changes he had been playing with in the registry, which is what got me pointed in the right direction to make a possible breakthrough on this, and he said he had the settings persistence problem solved, which I believe is key to avoiding having to set up the SRS WOW cpl each time WM is rebooted. The BT A2DP flakiness also might be resolved with some additional messing with configuration of the Power Manager in the registry (that's what that reg entry above does) to manage suspend mode power states for the BT A2DP driver. I'll keep working on it and post back here. For now, anyone that is good with direct registry editing, please make the above changes and post back with your results, so we can see if this is (finally!) a real fix. Best of luck gang! (I'm listening right now to Darius Rucker with SRS WOW on... man it is just the most delicious enhancement to the Omnia!!!) Edited May 14, 2009 by dwallersv
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I`m using vbox and I`m trying this now :D
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 Ok, happy to report that it`s ACTUALLY WORKING :D Thanks, bro, you`re the man - now I can finally live happy   :(
Guest FerdiBorbon Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) I can understand how to add this value etc...dwallersv pls help is it "new Key' "String Value' etc??? Edited May 14, 2009 by FerdiBorbon
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 What registry editor are you using? With Resco, just go into the folder and tap New-DWORD and in the name type wav8; the DWORD data set to 4, don`t touch Base :D
Guest cyberarmy Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) Tried it and will revert later tonight. Ok, went to watch 'Angels and Demons'. Good movie but during the 4 hours I had added the reg key and installed SRS/RSV, it frozen 3 times...........not sure why but I am using Shokka's WM6.5 (21210), if this helps. I had already uninstalled the 2 programs for the time being. Edited May 14, 2009 by cyberarmy
Guest Clos Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) It works! so far.... This morning I added the registry key as suggested and the phone hasn't frozen once. It froze all the time when I tried SRS WOW previously. The sound quality is remarkable, even using s2p. Its even better with pocket player. I haven't seen any drop in battery life yet. Thank you thank you thank you! :D Edited May 14, 2009 by Clos
Guest dwallersv Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I can understand how to add this value etc...dwallersv pls help is it "new Key' "String Value' etc??? It's a DWORD name/value pair. What does that mean? In registry-land, a "key" is directly analogous to a "folder" in the file system. The registry is hierarchical, like the file system. Just like folders can contain other folders and/or files, a key can contain other keys and/or name/value pairs. The only break with this analogy is that a key can have a value itself too -- that's the "default" name/value pair under the key. So, what you want to do is go to that Suspend key referenced above, and create a new dword value there, name it "wav8" (or whatever your omnia has named the SRS WOW driver at install -- it's been reported in that other thread that it was "wav1" on someone's Omnia), and set it to 4.
Guest dwallersv Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Guys -- please come back after a few days and report here if you get any freezes. I've had a few, but I have other things on my Omnia that have caused it to lock up before, so I can't tell whether or not it is SRS. There certainly are way fewer crashes than before, and certain circumstances that cause it to crash before don't now, so I'm encouraged. Nevertheless, we need lots of data from the rest of you testing it "in the field" to determine how solid a fix this is. THANKS!!
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Ok, have been using it for 2-3 days now and not a SINGLE freeze :D I think this has to be enough proof - I`m using vbox-es version with this fix
Guest Supadan Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 hey fellas just a headsup - vbox seems to have pulled his cab off the other post so we need an upload of it. Id love to help you out but i can't find vbox's cab of it anywhere. Can someone upload that for us?
Guest lastnikita Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) I've cabbed it with both wav1 & 8 added. testing now ! edit: updated cab with acs1 modif kept. looks like it works fine :DSRS_WOW_MediaBoX_Omnia.CAB Edited May 15, 2009 by lastnikita
Guest mementomori Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 great man sofar its working!! tnx for your efforts now if someone knows how to fixe the problem with settings of the soundtester with bluetooth headsets it would be perfect ;-) (the soundsettings to to default as soon as you turn on your bluetooth headset) i would love some more volume on my bluetooth headset!
Guest dwallersv Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 i would love some more volume on my bluetooth headset! I'm confused... install SRS WOW, enable it, and adjust settings to taste, and you will have A LOT more volume via BT A2DP. On the TruBass tab I recommend setting Output Gain to 0db, and Input gain to -3db to 0db, depending on how much bass boost you want (0db will be be perceptually the least, more and more as you go negative). I posted a thread with details of what the different settings mean in SRS WOW... it may help.
Guest Supadan Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Mine's hanging man...with the settings above. You did yours on a fresh install, correct? Are there settings I need to change (such as the preventing windows from locking the phone, etc as mentioned in the original post?)
Guest ardvarkofdoom Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 do we need to install the r2vs or w/e it is with your cab, last?
Guest Tony Duan Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I've cabbed it with both wav1 & 8 modified. testing now ! It seems working on my Omnia! One hour without freeze! Impressive! :D We will see~
Guest cyberarmy Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Then I wonder why my Omnia is freezing. Will try again with the Cab.
Guest Supadan Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 You need to fumble with the Omnia Windows mobile settings: Don't let your device lock itself. Go to settings > battery > and the drop down box that says turn off the device after __ minutes, disable that. Let s2u2 lock your device for u
Guest lastnikita Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Sorry I thought the acs1: driver modif could be removed, it looks like it needs to be kept. Here's the good cab, I also edited my earlier post, sorry for that dudes.SRS_WOW_MediaBoX_Omnia.CAB
Guest lastnikita Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 do we need to install the r2vs or w/e it is with your cab, last? I think you can just install this one. You need to fumble with the Omnia Windows mobile settings: Don't let your device lock itself. I don't need that, but I almost never let my device lock by itself..
Guest Supadan Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Trying out the most recent cab...so far both have frozen on me. Im running QBUS07 DXIA1 so ill let you know whats up asap. Guest achen_su Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 crash, crash again. to make it no crash the only way is make wow_arm_panel.cpl convert to wow_arm_panel.exe. who can make it. and make it run in procces. not in tas management. my phone no crash, if before press power button, must to open wow hd then press power button. no one can fixed it. please make it true. who know make it true. but in i780 can make it work perfect. i dont know why. but in i780 use olddriver r2vs_arm_wm6_pro_driver.dll in omnia use zylonite_wavedev.dll and must use flags = 2 to make wow hd work if omnia use olddriver r2vs_arm_wm6_pro_driver.dll no sound, no wow hd driver why? any one can give me this information
