How to use my i617 on T-Mobile?

I have an "old" Samsung i617 that I want to give to my girlfriend to use, but she have T-Mobile. I looked online but can't find a easy way to unlock to use other carrier than AT&T. I also don't want to contact AT&T because I canceled my PDA data contract with them and don't want them to tell me that I need to subscribe to their $30 data plan. I just want to set up that phone for my girlfriend on T-Mobile. I used to have HTC phones and I know that for those phones is easy to find ways to unlock the via XDA-Developers forums, but I havent been lucky with the i617.

So, to get to the point, where can I find a way to unlock this phone for using it on another carrier?

Thanks!

I just went down this road myself. I paid $3.88 to an unlocking vendor on eBay and had my unlock code within 36 hours. I didn't mind waiting the day and a half vs. paying $15 - $30 for a faster turnaround.

The next step for me was visiting the Samsung website and downloading the Windows Mobile 6.1 update. I then found the "Clean ROM" (http://www.modaco.com/content/i617-i617-modaco-com/277795/samsung-i617-blackjack-ii-wm-6-1-cooked-rom/) and loaded it instead.

I have a data plan, so I needed to clean up a few stray AT&T GPRS connection registry keys and then manually add T-Mobile GPRS entries. I also installed a number of my favorite Windows Mobile apps and then used the *#1546792*# hack to launch adminsettings.exe in order to set the phone to use GSM only (since the phone's 3G radio stack isn't T-Mobile compatible).

Hi!

I just unlocked it yesterday in a place near where I live.

After that I downloaded the "Clean ROM" and installed it (I already had installed the WinMo 6.1 AT&T built, so replaced it with the clean one). Its working fine, however, how can I set the T-Mobile settings for data connections and MMS settings. Where can I find those values to update them in order to all the features work.

How does T-Mobile myFaves work in a phone like this (since is don't a branded T-Mobile phone), can I edit them online on T-Mobile website? Or is there any app I can install in order to manage them?

Thanks!

Data and MMS settings info is here: http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/mms?i...comingServerId=

I don't have a myfaves plan, so I haven't researched myfaves functionality. I recall from past research that you can manage your myfaves numbers and settings on the t-mo website and your calls and billing will be handled accordingly.

If you visit the xda-developers site, you'll find a number of myfaves-like client-side solutions for non-myfaves phones.

Regards,

Zee

ok i had just called AT&T today got my unlock code, was happy as hell to do it since i was a customer for 5 years... then i had searched here for a generic rom to use on it... the only rom flash i had done was the wm6 to wm6.1 official upgrade. is there a generic rom that is that easy to use to replace the ATT one?

ok after reading this, talking with tmo, hard reset, then another call to tmobile i have got the internet and mms working....

but when i turn the phone off then back on the settings in:

settings / connections / advanced;

gets changed back to at&t settings....

is there a reg key or something causing this? the tmobile settings are still in there and i just got to change them after a reboot but its still kinda a pain
