Guest POMF Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 I'm just curious as to how the rest of you are unlocking your GPS. Obviously you have to start with the beta rom or a custom rom, but even after "unlocking", google maps takes several minutes to attain gps signal. The only solution I've had so far was to use an app called GPS Gate to output the GPS data to a specific virtual port which I've told apps like google and live search to look to. This works great and finds location instantly upon opening the app. Unfortunately there is a 14 day trial and after that you have to pay for GPS Gate. This would not be a problem, but my battery is DRAINING very quickly (24 hours, minimal use) and I'm fairly certain this is the culprit. I've heard very little mention of GPS Gate on the forums, leading me to assume there is another way. What are the rest of you using? Is there a specific com port I need tell the apps to listen on? Please help me out. I'm so tired of my girlfriend complaining of my endless tinkering with my phone. In fact. . . I think I'm getting tired of tinkering with my phone. Obviously Verizon isn't in any hurry to help us out. I wish they would send out a survey to omnia owners asking what in particular they'd like done. I think this is an absolutely wonderful piece of hardware that just needs a few fixes. I'd also be curious to know how many Omnia owners actually use that USELESS widget thing for their today screen. I'm so tired of brilliant devices being dummed down for the "average" consumer. After all, isn't that the problem with macs?

Com8 Baud 57600 but even setting the app to look there it still takes a little bit to get that initial lock. I have BAF GPS toggle on my phone (home screen plugin) and have that going in the backround. That keeps the gps locked. There is not that much of a difference in battery drain with it going, but there is some.

Guest POMF Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 There are already a number of other threads that deal with this exact issue. Try finding them with either google or the forum search. You won't find it. Perhaps users should take time to better word their posts. I'm not asking how to simply unlock the gps. THAT, has been asked many times and can easily be answered by searching this forum.
