Guest killu Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, I just got a new Omnia and Im completely new to the windows mobile scene. Now there are something that I realized while using the phone during the past hour that I have had it. 1.) The Auto Rotation is funny. For some reason the Accelerometer doesnt seem to working fine...Sometimes it works just fine and switches from potrait to landscape. But then at time I turn the phone around the the phone just does not change to landscape...it just sits there. Sometimes Ive been geting a messgae like New settings installed or settings not able to install. I dont understand. 2.) The phone does feel a little slow and I think its because of the firmware. I know many Omnia users and they have quite fast Omnias. Of course they do not look into firmwares and stuff so they cant help me here. 3.) I have firmware version phone: JPID1 and pda: JVIC3...which means its from Arabic and PDA from Oman...now the problem is I dont know what to do to upgrade. The samsung official site does not recognize my phone firmware correctly and gives me a incorrect firmware message. I know I have to do the DX method...but I dont understand how... NOw the most important thing is, If I do this so called DX method my phone will become a singapore firmware...I will be moving to australia some time later...once I have a singapore firmware that means i can select Singapore as my country of choice on samsung site and upgrade? And if I upgrade will this be a problem if I am staying in Australia? Also once i have DXIA5 installed...do I further need to upgrade from samsung site or just leave it... Also can anyone tell me any good ways to make my phone do that cover flow thing that the iphone does or have a good new UI...I think we need to install roms for that...is it possible to install more than one rom working at same time..excuse the n00bness you are witnessing. Finally a super n00b question, Is it safe to upgrade or flash to DXIA5 from my JP JV firmware...ive seen on many forums of people bricking their pieces. Do we have to seperately flash for phone firmware and then seperate for PDA firmware. Please help me here...I am really lost and scared I might mess the device up...I thought I will take help from the local guys but they know even less than me...If someone can guide me correctly, It would be a great help...Ive read loads of topics and know people know stuff here...but Im not yet upto the mark that I can understand most of what is being said... Hoping people dont diss this thread...really need help...thanks in advance... Edited May 12, 2009 by killu
Guest Christian Spain Posted May 12, 2009 Report Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) 1. I'm pretty sure this is normal... I usually don't use auto rotate but sometimes when I used to use it my phone did the same I assumed it was part of the system to keep if from auto rotating continually, because the accelerometer is a lot more sensitive than I thought when I first bought it. although the message you are getting I have never gotten. 2. The best way I know to get your OMNIA running faster is to install a custom rom, with all the good stuff and a bunch of the bad fixed on upgrade. Sector, Qbus, Taril's (back in the day), Shokka, Khuanchai all seem to have good roms. I'v only used Sectors, Taril and Qbus'. 3. go here and read through the first post... http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...re-version-fix/ It explains about versions, how to fix etc. and also the version sequence. I think the upgrade you are talking about is actually to an older version phone and pda. And as for the most important thing... If you have an unlocked phone then the rom country won't affect being able to use it. IE. I'm in Spain (original spanish rom) flashed to singapore (phone still worked in spain) flashed to custom rom (and the phone still works in Spain France, England, and I'm pretty sure US). If you have a locked phone read this.... http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...omnia-it-works/ I don't know I have unlocked but I trust the guys here. But then you might get into different bands..(ie. triband vrs. quadband google it) I've read through that some but stopped when I reassured myself that my quadband would work basically everywere all I'd have to do is throw in a sim card. Hope that helps  :D  :( Edited May 12, 2009 by Christian Spain
Guest killu Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Thanks a lot mate. So that means i can directly go to custom firmware without any worries right? I mean it wont brick if i go to custom firmware from this JP or JV thingy right? Also what do you guys suggest I go to...I need something that makes the UI faster...also if possible anything cool...with that coverflow feature for media like the iphone has...any help in that direction guys?

There is always a chance of bricking when flashing. I don't think it matters if you use a custom rom or an official one... as far as I can tell no one knows for sure what cause it to brick, although Pako seems to have done something in the newer exe's some of the custom roms use to make it less likely see here http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general.../i900-executor/ maybe look for that when you choose a rom. as for interface I like the new 6.5 that some of the cooks are making. sectors specifically, but it's still a beta so there are bugs. or read about some M2D manilla themes http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...emes-for-omnia/
Guest tnegreiros Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 I am having a similar problem. I just got a Omnia, bought in Dubai, version PDA: i900JPID1/JPID1 PHONE: i900JVIC3, wich is in arabic. How can I change the language of this device? English, Spanish, portuguese would be the best, but I can also take other language, rather then arabic. I am in Brazil. Please, somebody help me, because until I can fix that, there is no way I can use the phone in arabic!!!
