Hello im new to the forum, don't worry i did do a search on these issues but i want a more specific answer regarding my problem.

I have a new omnia, Australian stock. Under the 'about' this is the version

PDA: i900FHL1/DFHK1

PHONE: i900XXHL1

I'll start with the wifi, i know the quality/reception is not so great, but my problem relates to when 'Enable power save' for wifi is turned OFF. When I have wifi connected and the phone goes into standby, about 3-5 seconds later it comes out of standby and the backlight turns back on. This is really annoying as its wasting unnecessary battery. I like to leave wifi on along with say Windows Live messenger in the background when i'm at uni or at home, but it is annoying that everytime my backlight comes back on.

Also, I have made a registry edit so that the phone goes into standby in 30sec instead of the default minimum of 1min. Is there a way to make this change permanent? or include the 30 second option under battery power settings? because whenever i reload the power setting it defaults it back to 1 minute, then i have to dig through the registry to change it again.

Ive been doing a bit of reading and the wifi issue might be related to a 'wake' command being recieved. Can this be changed so that the backlight only comes on when the device itself wants to wake the fone? e.g. a Windows Live message arrives, so the backlight comes on?

Also, is there a way to backup the fone, including current ROM etc as it is.. so that if something major happens and the fone can only go into bootloader i can reflash my backed up rom?

Thanks

This is also my problem, when you turn on the power save it turns off the wifi when it goes to stand by mode (when display turns off) so the mesenger and other comunication software goes off too :D And when the power save for wifi is not enabled it lights the display still again and again - so the same problem like the poster above. I wrote it to some other posts, but nobody knows anything.

Thanks for the reply... something ive noticed, if i use other applications thru wifi like windows media player... and stream a radio station thru wifi.. the backlight will stay off! how is that possible?? it would constantly be using the wifi so how can it not tell the system to wake up?

this is wierd..

I have no idea, maybe the comunication software (msn, fring...) is waking the light up. But when only wifi is on and no soft is turned on the display is waking up also, so I have definitelly no clue what is causing this :D It looks like nobody else have this isue or nobody is using chating software, but that is really wierd...

Use S2U2 and then set how quickly you want the backlight to turn off. Press the power button at the top to turn the screen off as well.

i think each application controls backlight/device standby somehow... media player when its playing music and wifi is on, will stop it from coming out of standby and turning the backlight on unless a key is pressed.. and some applications make it stay on all the time.. like youtube app ive noticed..

somebody mite be able to make a lightweight program that keeps the backlight from coming on using the same principle as media palyer.. and can run in the background from startup.. hopefully it wont have much footprint on cpu though.. otherwise it will defeat the purpose..

Ive been having the same problem. http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...y/#entry1013586

Interesting note on streaming music via mediaplayer.

As a test- Have you tried this with the wifi ON and playing regular music (ex mp3 not streaming over wifi)?

Does this also keep the phone off in standby?

IF it does keep it off, this would tell us that streaming over wifi is not required and that media player has a priority over controlling the backlight over other applications which dont play nice with the wifi.

yeh unfortunately i tried that with just an mp3 and wifi on.. i thought it was all going well then all of a sudden the backlight came back on.. and kept repeating as usual.. so it only stops when its streaming it appears..

EDIT: I just tried it again.. appears to not be turning the backlight on when mp3 is playing..

im not sure what was happening the last time i tried :S.. but the backlight did come on about 10 sec before i got a new sms... so then i hit the power button to off the backlight... then a second sms came 30 seconds later which did not cause the backlight to come on... not sure wat happend there

Yeah you're i just downloaded some mp3's to test this out. The backlight will not turn on randonmly if there is an mp3 playing in the background when the wifi is on. Now we just need some smart person to figure out what is keeping the backlight off when the mp3 is playin and apply the same fix to the wifi.

Have you tried locking the device while connected to wifi? does the light come on still?

hey man!!! I tried something, somebody told me if I have good or bad signal to wifi so I checked and it waries from zero to 2 bars max, so when I went close to the wifi modem so the connection was stronger and it didnot wake up, it was in standby for more then 5 minutes, then I had to leave so I do not know if it will go from standby mode after more minutes or not. So you can check it also. Maybe it is trying to search for better signal and this is the reason for going from standby mode.

yeah ive also noticed that... when im near my router about ~3-5M it won't wake up for longer, but it eventually does wake up.

I think to stop it all together we need to find how media player is able to stop the backlight from coming on and run a lite weight tool in the background to keep it off until it is required..
