Guest thierryyy Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Hello, I've just bought myself an iPod Touch and my idea was to use my Omnia as an wifi accespoint so I have everywhere internet with my iPod Touch. So now I use the app called "WMWifiRouter" but when I use it for a while, my Omnia is getting very hot. My question: 1. Is this bad for the Omnia? 2. Does WMWifiRouter used a lot of battery power?? Thanks!
Guest banderdragon Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 it is not bad for the battery and yes, it drains the battery very fast. if it gets too hot to comfortably hold it is time to power the device down because that is not normal.
Guest thierryyy Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 It is not so hot that I can't touch the device, it's nice hot, but it's more hot than normall..
Guest dwallersv Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Any radio transmitting activity will always 1) use a lot of power and drain the battery quickly, and 2) make the device hot -- the transmitter output power transistors generate a lot of waste heat when there is a lot of power going through them. Both WiFi and cellphone usage involves radio transmission. Radio transmission is very power-intensive compared to recieving. There is simply no way to have an internet connect to the phone without sucking down power. However, the nature of the communications protocol to the cell tower results in lower power usage per kB of data than using wifi. So, your best choice in terms of power, battery usage, and heat is to use the cellular network for your internet connection rather than wifi.
