Guest La Traviata Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Hi! I want to be able to read/type Japanese text on my Omnia. I understand that I need to download a separate program for that and I am thinking of getting CE-Star, but I have a few questions: 1) Will it allow me to read Japanese webpages in Opera/IE? 2) Does it work on the Vodafone UK (ACHJ2?) ROM? 3) Do I download it first on my PC and then move it to the phone? 4) Can I keep it on my memory card or do I have to keep it in the phone memory? Apologies, I know this is very basic stuff but this is my first WM phone and I have never installed anything on it before. Many thanks!
Guest ellaqezi Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 i'm not using CE-star (read bad stuff about it) but rather this cab from flinx1 at XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550 << that's really good if you need tegaki but i prefer kana based typing so I use that cab alongside touchkeysip with a gesture10key script for it on a german ROM so i'm guessing you'll have no problems at all. Here's youtube video of how the interface will look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8KabRmLOxk...feature=related information about gesture10key: http://www.geocities.co.jp/lauhangwoo/zero...sture10key.html if you search the flinx1 thread for "gesture10key", you'll find instructions on how to install it Everything goes on device memory. just make sure you choose a QVGA skin for gesture10key.. i already made the mistake of trying out a VGA skin. goodluck!
Guest La Traviata Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Thank you so much for the info! I will look into it. If I may ask, what bad stuff have you read about CE-Star? Apart from the fact that it isn't free...
Guest ellaqezi Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 i read somewhere that it doesn't uninstall cleanly but maybe they already fixed that but CE-star was written for chinese anyway so it'll take up more space which becomes inconvenient especially if you only need japanese but i guess it would be a good option if you need chinese as well.
Guest La Traviata Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) They now seem to have an abridged version for people who don't need Chinese support: http://www.mobem.com/products/ce-starjapanese.php Thanks again for your advice! Edited May 31, 2009 by La Traviata
