How do I tether Matrix Pro for internet sharing?

I'm trying to tether my Matrix Pro to my laptop through bluetooth for internet access. I can get online on the phone fine and I can see the phone on my laptop (bluesoleil stack) but when I try to use the internet sharing, I get the "Waiting for network" message on my phone and the PAN connection drops on my laptop. The steps I found (and can't seem to track down right now) were:

Pair the phone to the laptop.

On the laptop, establish a PAN connection.

On the phone, go to internet sharing, select "Bluetooth PAN" for the PC connection then "Connect".

At one point, my laptop was assigned an IP address on the BT PAN adapter (192.168.50.100 or somesuch) and a gateway of 192.168.50.1, which I was able to ping, but I couldn't resolve any address names.

Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or if there's something I'm missing? AT&T's site tells you to use their software, which I'd rather not.
