Rom Cooking

Hi there guys, I read shokka's sticky about rom cooking and I'm thinking about delving into my own kitchen soon when I get some free time.

My first question though would be: Is there any way to test the roms before I load them on my phone in case I brick it? Or otherwise if I post the cooked rom here and somebody tries it and they brick their phone, what then?
